HD ChkDsk problem

When booting up in XP, one of my partitions (G all of a sudden kept reporting problems. Usually u get this msg whenever you reboot your PC without shutting down windows.
The message/chkdsk would constantly run every time I started up my PC.

To fix it, I had to format the partition, then the msg went away.
Is there another way to fix it without having to reformat the drive?

Yes.

But you should let chkdsk run in its entireity. You could be having a failing hard drive

run chkdsk with the /f switch or run from MYComputer>C:\ Drive>right click Properties> Toosl>Error checking, Check Now>place check marks in both boxes and it will run at next bootup

i did run chkdisk in its entiretly, but it still kept reporting problems everytime i boot up.
I doubt that there is a problem with HD since reformatting the partition fixed the problem.
I think there is some file which tells xp that there was an ungraceful shutdown and it couldnt remove that file.
