Need help - problem with speakers

I've got 2 speakers on my PC, one keeps cutting out. The only way I get it working again is if I change all the balance to it and crank up the volume, then all of a sudden it works again. Is there something I can do to fix this? Any idea's on what the problem is?
Thanks

wire problem, check the wires and plugs and consider buying new speakers.
