Can't rename long file name

I let Freedb name my MP3's, but didn't check close enough for a batch of Elvis Costello songs I ripped. The name for each file is incredibly long. When I try to open the rename option nothing happens... no go. I've tried in list mode, detail mode, icon mode. Nada. No issue with smaller files.

Am I out of luck here?

(edit... Windows 98 SE)

I am right. Go me.

Also, you meant to say "i.e." and not "e.g." Continue going, me.

well if you have lots of files to rename dos is a really pain in the butt way to do it. I would like to suggest Total Commander. It is really great. It has a multi-rename tool and can delete avi's that windows just can't seem to.
