I think I'm infected with something called "overture"

I keep seeing "overture search: DVDTalk" etc, in my popup killer window, and I think it's slowing my system down. I can't find it in add/remove, and a search for overture just finds cookies which deleting doesn't help. I've run AdAware and I still get it. What's up with this?

thanks

Did you check for Gator? I think Overture and Gator entered into a
partnership recently.

What makes you think it's slowing your machine down? Overture is a "commercial search services" company which is to say they buy and sell advertising.

If you don't have Gator on your system, then it's likely that your pop-up killer is simply blocking pop-ups that are originating from an Overture server.

I'm having all kinds of issues really, and I'm just trying to eliminate possibilities. I don't have anything from Overture installed (that I know of), so I'm thinking it's spyware of some sorts.

I also have an "adult links" toolbar in my IE toolbar that I don't know how to get rid of, any help there?

thanks

Sounds like it's definitely time to run Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy on your machine.

Both can be found at www.download.com

AdAware didn't fix it, I'll try the other, thanks.

And it's definitely an infection. I'm getting popups for things related to where I'm surfing, but on sites that don't do popups.

make sure you use the built-in update functions to get the latest adware definitions also.

You may also want to try running CoolWeb Shredder

http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe

This targets a specific, very tricky and malicious breed of adware.
