Minimum requirements for an Internet station?

What is the minimum requirement for an Internet station? I basically want a computer in the living room that will be used (99% of the time) just to surf the web. I have this old computer in the garage. Will this suffice?

Pentium 166 MHz
32 MB EDO RAM
2 GB HD

Also what OS should I install? Windows 98?

That's pretty puny. I think you'd need more memory.

But you might as well try it. I'd go with Win98.

Where can I get more EDO RAM? I don't wanna spend more than $20 (including tax/ship).

I assume standard 72-pin EDO? How many slots do you have?

I should have some lying around here. I've decommissioned a few older machines that had about a gig and a half.

32MB RAM? Some of my MP3s are larger than that.

That said, the requirements are minimal. You're really just running Winamp with a small casting utility. Anything that can run Winamp without a hiccup should be fine.

I've got a box setup in my game room specifically for web surfing. It's a Pentium 90 with 48MB of RAM and two 500MB hard drives... the OS is Win98. It's a bit sluggish at times, but as long as you aren't in a big hurry it gets the job done.

I'll open up the box today and let you know. I'm afraid to look inside though, with all the dust and stuff, but I'll do it tonight.

I finally opened up the computer and ... it uses the standard 72-pin EDO memory. It has 4 memory slots, and 2 are being used (2 x 16MB sticks).

I reformatted the HD and installed Windows 98 SE. So far ... it runs, does Internet surfing.
