DVD -R vs DVD +R?

So I just got my X-Mas present all set up and ready to go. There were a couple of blank discs in with the burner a DVD-R and a DVD+R - and of course no where in the docs does it say anything about what which one means what.

They both appear to have the same specs and the same storage capacity. Just that one is an orange TDK package and one is white.

Thoughts?
