C:\WINDOWS\homepage.htm - is taking over my internet explorer!!!

every damn time I restart my computer my IE homepage starts up as

C:\WINDOWS\homepage.htm

If I change it, it will go back to C:\WINDOWS\homepage.htm every time my computer restarts.

I'm also having some problems loading certain webpages.

For example, the first time I try to load dvdtalk, an error message pops up saying that explorer could not load the page and the operation aborted. Then, the "cannot find page" page loads. But, if I hit refresh, it loads fine. Other sites, (eg weather.com) will not load, no matter how many times I hit F5. Also, when these error messages pop up, the page loads first, then I see the error message, then it goes to the "cannot find page" page.

spybot isn't picking this up, ad aware isn't picking this up, my anti-virus scan shows nothing.

what the hell do I do?

Did you recently do any updates from Windows Updates?

nope.

honestly, it all started acting screwy after looking at a "naughty" website. A shitload of popups (even the google toolbar couldn't stop them). Then my favorites had a bunch of "naughty" sites added to the list.

It doesn't happen anymore, but the window would often shrink to less then full size on it's own, at random times.

i tried reinstalling internet explorer, but it's still giving me problems.

.... each time this is mentioned (most weeks) CWShredder seems to be recommended to good effect.
