Looking for decent, but cheap computer scanner

Anyone have a recommendation for a scanner? We have a Microtek we got a year or two ago for $10 or $20 after rebates. The auto shutoff for the light didn't work too well so it's burnt out and the company wants $50 to replace it. I'd rather buy another scanner for that much.

I don't need anything super fancy, just scanning the occasional photo to email (small res), receipts from secret shopping and cd covers that I'm burning onto cd-r. In other words, maybe not bottom of the line, but a notch or two above.

TIA

Three years ago, I got my Canon 620U scanner from Staples for $9 after MIR.

Anyway, I use this at home and I have 2 HP scanners at work. I prefer the Canon to the HPs even though one of the HPs is a brand new one (HP 3570c) that cost $150.

If you need one very soon, then try Wal-Mart. I saw a low-end HP scanner there for $60 that'll do all that you listed.

Thanks. I've seen the low-end HP around, but keep hoping a new model will appear that will drive the old ones out cheap. Our died about four months ago so I guess it's not urgent, but I would like to find one soon.

There's a Memorex Ultra-Thin Scanner at Staples for $75. It has a MIR of $45. Net price = $30 + tax. Free shipping.

$45 MIR: Purchase between 2/2 and 2/15. Postmarked by 3/15.

don't get that one. it royally blows. the quality is horrible and the scans are slow. i just got one recently. i believe it's a rebaged artec 48u+ or something like that. in any event, if you really want it, contact me privately, and you can have mine.

Hmmm. I'll have to check it out on Monday. Sounds like it might work. According to Memorex's website they no longer make scanners.

I just checked Ebay and there are several of these up-currently at $9.99 with less than a day to go. They mention the bar code was removed for rebate. Either they're losing money or another place had a better price than Staples.

edit to add: there are about 15 of these on Ebay and most want $14-20 for shipping. That still makes them less than Staple's price so there must be a deal someplace.

another edit: just found out that around Xmas various coupons/rebates allowed them to be purchased for under $10.

Found some more reviews that didn't care for it. Guess I'll continue to search for a deal.

I suggest the Vissioneer 4400 which works well with 1200 dpi for $50 but you can get it cheaper in the net. It also brings exellent scanning software called Pper Port which is really sweet and it also brings PhotoShop

Dell has this deal now (not sure about scanner quality, but I'm also looking):

Epson 1260 Scanner 1200x2400dpi USB 48-Bit $79 - auto 10% off = $71 - $30 rebate = $41 shipped free. Search for Epson 1260
