Network card help!?

My desktop computer died a while ago, right before I got my laptop, and since I got the laptop I didn't need the desktop anymore so it wasn't a big deal. Well, I replaced the power supply and my desktop works now, but I want to be able to network the laptop w/ the desktop. The problem is that the desktop can't seem to find the drivers for the card. It has been installed for a long time, as I had DSL before, so I know that it worked at one time. I tried searching for drivers, but you have to know the manufacturer of the card, and I don't know what it is. I pulled the card and it isn't printed on the card itself. My desktop has Win 98 and my laptop has Win XP, and I don't think that will be a problem once I get the card working, but I may try putting my laptop's system disk into the desktop and search for drivers there. I guess the question is, does anyone know of a generic driver that I can use. When I run the Add Hardware wizard it comes up with "PCI Ethernet Controller" as the new hardware. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The network card must have an ID number on it; look for that, then do an Internet search to see if you can find any further information on it, and possibly a driver.

Ok, thanks. There was a sticker on it, so I will look for that number on the internet, and see what I can come up with.
