Is there a way to install Windows Media Player under XP without reinstalling XP?

I have XP Home, and last night I downloaded the beta version of WMP ver 9 last night..... big mistake. Many videos (mostly all of the videos they were pushing along with the release of WMP 9) run really choppily, and now I've noticed there are a few videos I have that don't even run now (WMP doesn't recognize them). So basically, it's crap as far as I'm concerned. Any way to just reinstall the previous version of WMP for XP, or am I screwed?

and then reinstall 8

on a side note.. version 9 has been running really smooth for me

How exactly do I reinstall ver 8? I can't find it on the internet, and I can't find a way to do it from the XP disc.

Although not an XP user, I would guess/imagine it's something under an "Add/Remove Programs" type deal in the control panel. In Windows 9x versions that was where you could select/de-select various core components of Windows and sometimes be prompted to insert your install disk accordingly.

I go there, and I see no option to add or remove Windows Media Player.
