HELP!!! Windows Protection Error!?!?!

Ok, i need HELP, i am really frustrated at this point.

Everytime I try to burn a CD, my computer gives me a "Windows Protection Error" Message on the black screen. I'm running Win98, using Roxio 5.1 Platinum burning software. I'm not sure if it's a virtual memory or a .VxD file causing this. I was just wondering if anyone had any solutions to try and correct this problem.

I just replaced my CD-Burner, so i know that is not the problem as i thought it was. Should i upgrade to WinXP or Win2000???? I already re-installed Win98 numerous times.

Thanx in advance......

Everytime that i received a Windows Protection error in win98 it was caused by McAfee. Not sure if this helps, just my experience.

and here is another suggestion

Yes I've the same problem. From what I found out it with mine is, if you have a Cd burning program (e.g Nero etc) it sometimes conflicts with the IDE port drivers (without telling you) windows can't see the problem so it goes into automatic panic mode and Hello, there it is, Windows Protection Error, becomes annoying after you restart several times. what I did and maybe you might want try this to is go to the website of your motherboard manufacturer and update the port ide drivers.
