Video-out on dvd-rom

my dvd-rom says line out. what is that for? to use it do i need special software?

My guess is that it is an output for audio CDs. The DVD-Rom itself has no video chip, it cannot output video. It will simply output data using the ide cable that will be used by your software DVD player (or decoder card) and then your video card (or decoder card) can output a video signal (to a TV if you card has a TV out).

help

it one says "audio out", another says "video out" and a third says "spdif out"? do you know what these are? thanks

"Audio out" is probably the standard stereo RCA output

"Video out" is probably the standard video RCA output

"SPDIF out" is the digital audio output (either optical or coax)

I'm not quite sure what kind of DVD-ROM you have that would have these connections. Are these specifically on the drive? (If so, what kind of drive is it?)

Or do you have a card in the back of the computer (ie decoder card) for this?

This looks like a decoder card, not a DVD-Rom drive. It may not be impossible but I have to admit that I have never heard of a DVD-Rom with video output.

Audio out is probablt your analog audio output. Video out is for the image and spdif out is your digital audio output (you need a Dolby decoder for example)
