Why won't Windows DVD player let me play DVDs?

I have Windows ME and the Windows DVD Player "dvdplay.exe" tells me:

"DVD player is unable to play this disc because the disc is copyright protected."

Aren't almost all discs protected? Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do? Thanks.

Hmmm, because it's suck? (Sorry, couldn't resist...)
Seriously, have you tried other software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD?

All DVDs for some reason.

I use WinDVD to watch movies, but the Windows one is the only one that lets you capture anamorphic stills in the correct ratio. I used it a lot a while ago, all the sudden it did this.

PowerDVD does this. Are you sure WinDVD doesn't have this option? Also, you may have to disable hardware acceleration for the capture function to work.
