? about powersupplies

Quick question. I've seen a lot of new power supplies say they are designed for P4 and/or AMD K7 systems. I'm assuming that there is some kind of special energy saving that goes along with these that won't work on older systems. My question is, I have an old P2 system w/ a 300W power supply. Can I use this on a new AMD K7 or P4 system? Even if I can, does anyone know if there is any real advantage to using one of these new power supplies? Thanks for any and all help.

The new power supplies are higher current versions needed for the power-hungry Athlon and P4 chips. You could try yours, but it might give you all sorts of erratic, hard-to-diagnose problems.

thanks for the info. I think I might as well just pick up a new one since they are fairly cheap.
