Formatted HD/Reinstalled OS - Can't get back on network

hello all..

i just formatted the HD on one of my pc's, and reinstalled Win98. i'm having a helluva time trying to get this PC back on the network. fyi, i have a linksys router. all the settings i put in for tcp/ip seem to be fine. when i run winipcfg though, nothing shows up for default gateway, and i definitely have it added under tcp/ip. also, i checked what DNS Server my other pc's on the router are using, and added that under DNS.

this seems to happen every time i try to add a new pc to the network. it takes hours and i have no idea why. any idea what i'm doing wrong, or any clues/tips from experienced users? thanks in advance.

whelp, first of all, make you sure you don't have any splats in your device mangler.

if that's free and clear, i'd suggest hardcoding all of your ip information in. you ip, your subnet mask, your gateway, your dns, etc.

let me know how that goes.

Is the Linksys router set up as a DHCP server? If so, have you turned on DHCP on the client? What happens when you do a release and renew in Winipcfg?

Edit to say I just figured out what Cranky meant in his first sentence (d'oh!).
