Remote Desktop and Routers

I have a desktop and a laptop hooked up to a SMC 7004BR router. Both systems are running XP Pro. I have been looking into the remote desktop feature. I would like to be able to control the laptop using the desktop.

First off, is this possible going through the router, or wil there be NAT or similar issues?

I thought I had everything set up correctly, but I still can't get it to work. The host (laptop) is configured, but when I try to connect with the client (desktop) by attempting to expand the workgroup to select the laptop, it says "The workgroup does not contain any terminal servers." I know you can type in the IP directly, but I don't know the IP address because of the router.

Thanks.

go to the computer.. hit start..run.. type cmd..
from the command box type ipconfig
this will give you the ip address that is being assigned to that computer by the router
