Sominex, for $124.99, you can't beat the Sony S320 PDA. It's direct from Sony, and refurbished, but it's awesome. It's as much as you can get in your price range, and it only weighs about 4.2oz. It can do all you asked for, and uses memory sticks, which have become much much cheaper.

Here's the link.

Any questions, feel free to email me. I used to have this one until I upgraded to color.

That's a nice price for a pocketPC, but the thread starter only wants to spend $100-$150 on this thing! The Audiovox is supposed to be a nice machine, but gets only around 3 hours on its battery.

Did anyone get in on this deal at Office Depot?

It was THIS handspring ehre for $38 plus tax- B&M only

Here

If I could just get a receipt I MAY be able to price match it at a store near here (as someone went and bought the the last ones at office depot near by) I love it when people take advantage of a good deal and make sure no one else gets one

That sony ones looks really nice, but I wish the memory feature was not "memory stick"

I would also like it to be "Palm OS combatable" so I can use palm programs on it

The Visor Deluxe will do everything you want it to, based on your list of requirements.

To see what kind of programs are available for the Palm OS, check out http://www.palmgear.com

As for the Springboard Module expansion slot... there are a lot of things that you can do with it... check out: http://www.handspring.com/products/sbm_all.jhtml for the complete list of available modules...

Handspring is even having a 20% off sale on a lot of their modules. http://www.handspring.com/promos/modulemadness.jhtml

And finally, you can check out http://www.visorcentral.com for a bunch of reviews and a pretty decent set of forums for just about anything related to the Handspring Visor and Treo PDAs. It should have info about the Glenayre wireless module in the CompUSA deal.

Eagin!

Thanks for the very informative post!

Can anyone recommend accessories for this?

Cheap ones or maybe something some stores are closing out of stock?

What about guides to upcomming PDA/Cell phone combos. I'd really like a nice one as I'm going to switch away from the company with lots of commercials and no service (cingular).

How do you go about getting these programs?

Can you DL them and then transfer them to the Handvisor? or do you have to buy/keep them on one of the "cards" that go into the back?

Also, Do you or anyone know anything about that "Compact Flash adaptor card"?

It looks nice, since I have CF cards already.

it is about $50 though :-(

Ya know...

I would love a color one

Maybe I should wait?

Will that Magellon GPS work in COLOR?

Does anyone know if the 8MB Visor Deluxe has a backlit screen? And is it "indiglo" type or just crappy little lights on the side?

The Visor delux is back light. Not very good, but there. Not the sharpest screen in the world, but usable.

Maybe I should skip it then.

DESPITE my hatred for that store, the free PDA case was a nice add on for it

But the Handspring does not seem to come highly reccomended though.

I wish I had gotten in on that "FREE palm pilot" with the infinity test drive

Hold down the power button until it kicks on. Repeat to turn it off.

Most of the programs at palmgear you can download and Hotsync to your PDA using the install tool that comes with it... it's pretty straight forward. Some of the programs will be free, some will be shareware, but you don't have to have anything to go in the Springboard expansion slot if you don't want it.

I haven't picked up the Memplug adapter yet, but I did just get the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Digital Link which lets you turn your Handspring PDA into a PDA/Phone combo unit... which I think someone else was asking about... I've been pleased with it so far... Besides being a pretty good phone, it's great to be able to pull up DVD reviews as I'm wandering the aisles at Best Buy or Fry's trying to decide what's worth picking up.

The backlight on the Visor Deluxe is okay... but you're gonna need backlighting on any PDA, unless you go with color or unless you're using it during the daytime or in well lit areas only, and there are some hacks available to change the backlight style on the Visors, I believe.

If you want Color, look at the Handspring Prism... I just upgraded to this in December and haven't been disappointed... it has the best looking color screen IMO, though it becomes very difficult to read if you're outdoors in bright sunlight... and the Prism was at the time, least expensive of the color models... don't know about currently.

Handspring's are good to go with if you want to use your PDA for more than just storing phone numbers/addresses/appointements, etc... Palm and Sony don't have quite the array of expansion options that the Springboard slot gives Handspring... but in the end, it's all a matter of what you want to use it for.

I have a Cassiopeia E-100 that runs on windows CE. I like it cause it is color and I got a great deal off of uBid. If you know the product and pricing sometimes you wont get ripped off there. Otherwise I recommend any of the Cassiopeia PDA's and the Sony Clio's

I'm thinking it's about time for the mods to close this thread. It's no longer a Hot Deal, but turning into a "How Do I?" thread.

Which is why it's here in the "Computer & DVD-Rom Forum" and not in the "Hot Bargains Forum".
