This is a great price though for this combo, the mobo is pretty nice, it has 6 USB ports and 3 DDR slots (you'll pay at least $80 for it usually). I love the Athlon XP processors, and the case is good. You're looking at like $185 on pricewatch for the cheapest 1700 barebones systems...and this one has a better mobo and case so I would say jump on it (as a computer builder).

Also, their shipping is only $7.17 (for me) for Airbore Express ground (which usually takes only 2-3 days). The systems on pricewatch will run you about $30 shipping.

It's a sweet system, it was time for me to build a new one and this was perfect for me. I ordered one.

I love the Athlon processors, I like them much better than the P4's.

This is a great deal. I just got my roomate to buy one. I would have but I just built a new computer recently. Anyways, wouldn't this system be a bit overkill for a MAME machine? Damn those things are cool though!

If you have a Fry's local to you, they have the same prices as Outpost.

Questions

So if I bought this, I drop the CPU on to the motherboard, buy some RAM and a soundcard, move my hard drive, video card, DVD drive and CDRW drive from my old system, and I've got a new computer?

TIA!

You may have a problem "moving" the hard drive ... you might have to start from scratch to get the OS to work ... but otherwise, yes.

Do these "barebones" systems come with power sources and fans?

Tell me if I am wrong
they come with:
case
MoBo
fans
CPU
power soure

and that's it?

If I bought one, I would only need to add

Ram
Sound Card
Video Card
Hard Drive
Software

??

Per a friend who knows computers and who looked at this for me, the board comes with integrated audio (but not integrated video, which is good), so you wouldn't need a sound card.

I also am interested in this machine as I am looking to build a system, and am interested to see the answer to your (Sominex's) question.

YOu would also want a CD-RW or CD-ROM at the very least. These (CD-ROMs) can be had for pretty cheap. In fact, good CD-RWs can be had for pretty cheap (

I just got an Email on my order - CPU is backordered with no ETA.

The case and motherboard arrived, but they don't do much without a CPU.
