Need help on firewire cable

I need help on purchasing a IEEE 1394 firewire 4pin/4pin cable. I see a bunch of them for sell from buy.com and the price ranges from $7 and up. Anyone know what's so special about the pricer ones other than selling their brand name? Also, what is this S400 compliant that I see from some IEEE 1394 cables? So, not all cables are S400 compliant?

This is for the [email protected] Mindstor device connecting to a Sony VAIO SR7K laptop.

I was at CompUSA buying a 1394 card. They had Maxtor & Western Dig's for $60, but I went with the good ol' CompUSA brand for $25. All three came with a firewire cable & DVcam editing software. No problems so far with mine & I'm burning DV's constantly!

Are you hooking a digital camcorder to your firewire card? if so, is the camcorder label S400? I'm just curious since my laptop has the S400 on it. I might as well get a cable that will support S400 incase I have a use for it in the future. Too bad I don't quite remember if my sister's digital camcorder has a firewire port.

Yeah, I'm running my DV-Cam with Firewire. I'm sorry, but this S400 talk has me at a bit of a loss. When I was buying the 1394 card, the tech's at CompUSA told me "1394 cards are 1394 cards", plain & simple. I was checking my DV-Cam and the box that my 1394 card came in(& instructions) and I'm sorry, I don't see any mention of S400 anywhere.

dvdsteve2000,

Thanks for the help. I'll just drop by a computer store and buy 1 for now. Friggin RCS Computers wants 40 bucks for a Belkin cable when I saw it online from buy.com for 15 bucks.
