Do I need to convert NTSC to PAL

Do I need to convert NTSC to PAL to play it back on a DVD player? I have a NTSC sony video camera but I would like to make CVDs and send them to europe is this an issue.

The way I understand it, the DVDs are region encoded, not PAL/NTSC encoded. The player itself handles PAL/NTSC.

This is evidenced by a DVD player I sent to a friend in Germany -- it's a US player, but does both NTSC and PAL, so she can watch our DVDs on her television in Germany.

I think the correct answer is 'maybe'. Many PAL TV sets (from what I hear--I'm in the US) will essentially convert NTSC to 'PAL 60', which can be played back on normal European TVs.

I would check the specs of your television. Unfortunately for us in the US, playing PAL on an American NTSC set is much more rare (but I can).
