Need help with IE, AGAIN

Ok, 1st I had problems going to secured sites. Got that fixed by downloading the 5.01 patch.

The other day I upgraded by dowloading the 5.50 upgrade. Now when ever I click on an active link that would open a new window (such as a link in a forum message), I get an illegal operation error (2 or them), and clicking ok, both IE windows shut.

Any help would be appreciated.....

sounds like your install is hosed..

2 choices.... go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click product updates.. I believe there is a service pack 1 for IE 5.5.. that isnt directly the answer, but there is a good chance that making that upgrade will fix the problem indirectly...

other choice is to go to control panel.. add/remove programs.. and uninstall IE 5.5.. make sure 5.01 still works right.. then either stay with it, or try upgrading to 5.5 again.

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled 5.5 and found 5.0 working fine. So tried reloading 5.5. Still no luck. So removed it again, now just runing 5.0 (but it shows the 128 encription).

So fine with me. Will leave well enough alone. At least for now. Going out of town for a week, so might mess with it when I get back. Or might mess with it on my laptop and see if I can find any issues there..

Thanks again for the help.

i still am running IE 5.00.2614.3500 has 128 bit encryption so it does the job for now.

what advantages are there for spending the time to upgrade to 5.5??

nothing great from going from 5.0 to 5.5.... Major bug fixes in going from 5.0 to 5.01.. might wanna go to windowsupdate and make sure you have service pack 1 for 5.0..
Im running 6.0.2512.001 without any problems
