Re: Do you support Premium Video on Demand ($20 or more for rental or purchase)?
In principle, I support them trying to charge whatever they think people will pay.
In practice, I won't pay more than 5 bucks for a rental, and very rarely more than 10 bucks for a purchase. I can wait. I did pay more than that, maybe 14.99, for Knives Out because I really wanted to watch it again and wanted my wife to watch it, but that's an exception. I think 20 to 30 for a rental is crazy, and yes I know going to a theater for two people is that much. It's different. Paying full rental price, on top of a paid subscription service, definitely not doing that. Rent then own, or rent-now own-later, I would definitely do. |
Re: Do you support Premium Video on Demand ($20 or more for rental or purchase)?
Not for me, but I could kind of understand why studios are doing it. I might get a few movies for $20, but I might wait until the price drops or if it goes on sale a couple of months later.
Edit: Grammar mistake. |

Though Disney could go screw themselves for thinking people (besides families, of course) would pay for a movie on a monthly service.

Do you support PVOD? Premium Video on Demand
Edit: 4 years later, post-COVID and theaters long back and opened up. Forgot I originally made this thread back in 2020, so appreciate it being merged
So what is your stance now in 2024? Talking about brand new movies that have segued to Premium streaming for $20 to $30 for rentals or owning even during their theatrical run. Example: The new Kevin Costner movie "Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1" was a box office disappointment and is now available on PVOD for $20 to rent and $25 to own https://www.vudu.com/content/browse/...pter-1/3324612 It probably won't be available for SVOD (subscription video on demand) like Max until sometime in August. I know interest is kind of lukewarm here for Horizon, but is there anyone here who is willing to pay $25 to see it at home now? I'm not talking about this movie specifically. There are many examples like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Fall Guy, The Bikeriders, Furiosa etc. Or do you wait for it to drop to $6 to rent? Or do you wait even longer for SVOD, which could be many months later? |
Re: Do you support Premium Video on Demand ($20 or more for rental or purchase)?
$9.99 for a digital purchase is about the max for me. I'm thinking about buying Challengers on iTunes in 4K. It's on sale for $9.99 and there's no physical 4K release. I bought Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire when it was on sale for $9.99. I'll buy a lot of MA titles via Fandango at Home with a gift card. You can get $50 gift cards for $40 via sales occasionally and save even more money. Unless, I'm dying to buy something I won't pay $6 to rent it. I'd rather wait and buy it digitally on sale for $5 or $9.99. I hate that I can't go to Redbox and rent discs for $2 anymore or pay Netflix a monthly fee and get them in the mail.

That film had no right to fail and is my favorite film of the year so far. I will also be getting the 4K disc sets next month. I'll probably do the same with Horizon, as well. |
Re: Do you support Premium Video on Demand ($20 or more for rental or purchase)?
If I’m thinking of dropping $20-30 for a PVOD then it would have been important enough for me to see in the theater. Otherwise it can wait for streaming or a digital sale.

Re: Do you support Premium Video on Demand ($20 or more for rental or purchase)?
I've never purchased the premium rentals.
I've decided the most I will do is a $6 Vudu rental and subscription streaming (pay for Netflix, and great, it eventually appears on it) |

I wouldn’t have minded paying the $20 rental fee for Emma, Antebellum, and Mulan but I made the mistake of asking my household for opinions and got the thumbs down. The D+ reports/rumors around the last also were a factor. I’d totally have done it for Wonder Woman but now don’t need to.
Stuff like You Should Have Left didn’t seem worth it to me so I waited for regular rental. I’ve never paid the $25-30 premium EST price. I’ve paid the standard $20 new-release EST a handful of times. |
