Shoot, you're right. Crypto Island. One episode was about the Cryptoland thing, so I mixed up the names.
Also, I never actually listened to Reply All. I heard it has completely fallen apart since he was more or less forced out, though. Regardless, Crypto Island rules. |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
I was thinking about going back and listening to older ones and working my way forward until the Bon Appetit nonsense. Based on my satisfaction with Crypto Island, and your recommendation, I'll be doing that sooner than later.

Re: Podcast Master Thread
Four episodes into Reply All, starting from the beginning, and I'm loving it. This is right up my alley. The first one was just ok, but 2,3, and 4 are great stuff.
The only nitpick, and it's minor, is the old-ass ads that still play through the episodes. Luckily they're easily skippable. The episode on the Figure 1 app (app doctors use like instagram to share gruesome photos) was wild. |

Re: Podcast Master Thread
I started Crypto Island and I'm really enjoying it. I also started Pod Meets World, a Boy Meets World rewatch podcast with Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle. I'm really liking it so far. Boy Meets World was one of my favorite shows growing up.

Re: Podcast Master Thread
^ yeah, I just caught up on the most recent episode of Crypto Island from a couple weeks ago, and it's another excellent one. Really enjoyed the interview with the guy who manages some celebrities, and hearing that clip of Quentin Tarantino in particular talking about this stuff was super cringe.
I was wrong about the old ads on Reply All  I just assumed some of the ads were old, but then I heard one or two that were definitely more recent. |

Re: Podcast Master Thread
I've been listening to Reply All off and on for a few months now.
I'm up to episode 79, Boy in Photo. Just straight up amazing. |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
I’ve probably mentioned this one before, but one of my favorite podcasts continues to be Mick Garris’ Post Mortem. He interviews cast and mostly directors of mostly the horror genre, but the discussions cover all aspects of film and filmmaking. He’s a great interviewer.

Re: Podcast Master Thread
So I'm all the way up to episode 158 of Reply All now (The Case of the Missing Hit). Easily one of the best episodes they did, yet again. It's such a damn shame I'm coming so close to the end... but PJ's new new show (titled Weekly) sounds like it'll be excellent.

PJ Vogt’s new show, Search Engine, now has its first preview episode up. The show officially launches in July, ideally with new episodes every week.
So far, so good. |

Honestly... the show takes a bit of a dive from that point on. I really wish they would retroactively publish the last two Bon Appetit episodes, regardless of the stuff that blew up. It was an interesting story in its own right and needed a conclusion, even if they felt it was flawed. Regarding the PJ stuff.. I don't know how to feel about it all. The details of everything that went down are a bit confusing. This probably isn't the forum to get into it, though. Regardless, I thought Crypto Island was an excellent little series, and I think Search Engine is sounding like it'll be the spiritual successor to Reply All, albeit without Alex. |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
Search Engine is turning out to be pretty good for the most part. The latest -- a two-parter on Fentanyl -- is pretty heavy stuff.
The Studies Show is a very new podcast I've been listening to as well. Generally, the hosts are still working out the kinks, but basically the gist is that they talk about existing studies and how they're interpreted, often incorrectly, by other people. However, that's not always the case, and sometimes they don't come to as fine a point on a topic as I'd like, but I still find it entirely interesting to listen to. Mindscape. Still listening to this off and on. I don't catch every episode, but I'll listen when I have the time. Sean Carroll is an excellent host to all sorts of guests, mostly talking science and philosophy. |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
If you're a fan of of the Justice League Animated series, Hosts James Enstall and Susan Eisenberg who voiced Wonder Woman are doing a podcast. I've been enjoying it
Susan Eisenberg (aka: Wonder Woman) and James Enstall (aka: Geek To Me Radio) team-up to revisit the original 'Justice League' and 'Justice League Unlimited' cartoons and bring you behind the scenes takes on these beloved animated series! Each episode of the podcast features a special guest from the show from directors, actors, composers, writers, producers and more!! |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
Heard some sad news. Scott Wampler--a film critic and one of the hosts of The Kingcast (a podcast about Stephen King novels and movie adaptations)--died a few days ago. I haven't seen any details given beyond "natural causes."
I first heard of The Kingcast when the hosts were guests on the Blank Check podcast. I was a big Stephen King fan back in the day so I started checking out The Kingcast and enjoyed it. I've listened to several episodes, but am nowhere near being caught up with all of their episodes. They've posted a new, memorial episode about Wampler and about the future of the podcast, but I haven't listened to it yet. RIP Mr. Wampler :rip: |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
For anyone who might be interested, the Blank Check podcast is covering early Spielberg movies now. Several years ago, they had done a Spielberg series that started with The Lost World, so now they are circling back to his earlier films, starting with Duel.
|
Re: Podcast Master Thread
They just finished up a Lynch series.
I haven't gotten through that series yet. Nearly 3 hours on That rabbit movie was just too much for me then a comprehensive coverage of The Return. Ugh |

I just discovered the Alex has his own show now called Hyperfixed. I'm going to check it out soon. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...d/id1762447440 |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
I've been listening to Hyperfixed (Alex from Reply All's podcast) lately and I really like it. It's essentially an expanded edition of Super Tech Support, but they're covering all kinds of problems instead of solely tech problems. The Two Birds, 100 Stones episode is excellent.
|
Re: Podcast Master Thread
I just listened to an interesting new podcast miniseries called "Dirtbag Climber." It's about an unsolved murder, but the really interesting stuff is the victim's past. Just five episodes so it's not a big commitment.

Re: Podcast Master Thread
We went to a HDTGM live show this weekend and it was a ton of fun.
Paul Scheer goes into the audience and takes a ton of questions, very interactive. Highly recommend a show if you have an opportunity to see them live m |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
What movie did they discuss? Will keep an eye out for it.

Re: Podcast Master Thread
We had Law Abiding Citizen
previous night in Chicago was Monkeybone I think |

Re: Podcast Master Thread
She is a beautiful woman but that's not exactly a good photo of her.
First time I heard of her before I knew of HDTGM she was on a fake show that was a parody of the Bachelor called Burning Love. it was pretty good for a while. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2292621/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
A post on reddit introduced me to two new podcasts. One is called "Dropping Names" and is hosted by Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes, of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame. It's not a ST-centered podcast, they just sit down with other actors/celebrities and talk. The other is called "Once We Were Spacemen" and is hosted by Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk. Likewise, this podcast is not just about Firefly, they have conversations with other people they know and have worked with.
The post that brought these to my attention was a youtube link to the episode of Dropping Names in which Fillion and Tudyk appear together as guests of Spiner and Frakes. |
Re: Podcast Master Thread
Dropping Names is good, but they have a gimmick of Frakes dinging a bell every time a famous name is dropped (hence the title of the show) and it gets REAL annoying REALLY fast.
|
Re: Podcast Master Thread
Yeah, they were even talking about it being annoying in that latest episode. I'll bet they drop the bell soon.
|
Re: Podcast Master Thread
Apple podcasts now have video for the shows that support it. Meh, most of my listening is in the car, and if I wanted video, I’d just watch them on Youtube.
