If it's really only their trickle of original shows, it does make something like Amazon Prime seem like a steal.

So how long has this whole service been in the making? A massive empire like Apple can only come up with these few shows at launch? They couldn’t have begun shooting these shows like a year or more ago and have them ready by launch? Unless they pull some kind of surprise announcement to get the subscriptions going, this is going to put a big dent in their stock.

But yeah unless you're a hardcore Apple lover and have to have everything Apple, most are not going to pay for just 5 shows at launch. And those shows may not even interest people. Apple has billions of dollars, so they aren't going to file bankruptcy if this doesn't have a Boom launch. I have to think there is more to this than just the original shows and movies.

November 1st it rolls out in hundreds of countries, $4.99/month. Still not worth it IMO. Especially since they just talked about a couple of shows and STILL have not stated if there will be anything else tied to it. Sounds like there won't be.
But if you buy any new Apple product, you get a year for free.

Cook made it sound like this service will be exclusively built around original content. New content will be added monthly. Probably why they have to start with the $5 price point. They are basically starting this service from scratch.

I may subscribe for a month in the next year or so. Too much content already on the services I have and I’ll be watching the Disney+ stuff when those come out. Nothing screams to me to subscribe to Apple+ at this time.

According to the official Apple press release, Oprah's show has no title.
This is the only description:
Oprah Winfrey joins the world’s most compelling authors in conversation as she builds a vibrant, global book club community and other projects to connect with people around the world and share meaningful ways to create positive change.

I'll take a wait and see approach on that Oprah show. As a bookreader by trade and on my free time - she does not always choose books that I may actually be interested in. I am curious about how they'll make it a worldwide phenomenon since it seems that Apple themselves are going to weave their magic in some way to get the message across.

"Untitled Oprah Winfrey project" sounds like a good name for a band. Will this have licensed shows and movies from other companies too like Netflix and the rest, or are they expecting to get $5 per month just for those shows they're doing?

For All Mankind is the only one I really want to see - because of Ron Moore. But I'm still not sure if that's enough - especially since I'm guessing I can grab a DVD or Blu-ray release down the road.

I'm really disappointed they haven't released a cheaper ATV or an ATV Stick. I know an app is coming to other streaming devices. But I'd buy a new ATV if there was a 4K model under $100.

Yeah the Apple TV is expensive. I have the Apple TV 4K (32 GB), which I got for free for sampling DirecTV Now a few years ago. It retails for $180 and that's quite expensive for a streaming device nowadays unless you love the Apple ecosystem. It's a cool device with a clean interface, but I probably wouldn't have bought it on my own.
Even the regular HD version is still pricey at $150.
I think most budget conscious people lean towards an Amazon device or a Roku.

but since they're finally allowing us to watch itunes content on other devices, it doesn't matter all that much anymore anyway.

Right, which is why I brought up the fact that she has her own network and asked if she’s really a selling point already having that. I know she’s very popular still, but I just imagine that a good chunk of people who are that devoted to her probably get her network somehow (cable subscription or whatever).
