Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
There’s a new show called Peacock Variety Hour hosted by Seth MacFarlane that started tonight.
This one was about 7 minutes long and featured a new episode of Monk and included the entire main five actors from the show. I had to search “Variety” to find it. ”Mr Monk Shelters in Place” |

Peacock has announced 2 sign up specials for their paid tiers. $29.99 for 1 year (ad supported) and you can watch everything on the service. $79.99 for the ad free option There is a free ad supported option, but apparently the programming is limited. |

^ I thought the ad-supporting service was supposed to be free for anyone who pays for basic cable?
Edit : Okay, scrolling up I see that it wasn't all basic cable, but it was supposed to include me (I have Cox).

Peacock launches nationally July 15th Quote: Peacock, the streaming service being rolled out by NBCUniversal and Comcast, will arrive April 15 on Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex video platforms before a national launch on July 15. It will come in three versions: a free, ad-supported one; a more robust, ad-supported one that will be free to Comcast and Cox Cable subscribers, and $5 for everyone else; and an offering with no ads that is $5 for Comcast and Cox subscribers and $10 for everyone else. The service will have an “early bird” launch in April for subscribers of X1 and Flex, which account for a majority of total subscribers to the No. 1 U.S. cable operator. The national rollout comes just before the July 24 start of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which offers the company a large promotional megaphone. A bundled arrangement with Comcast and Cox Cable will also kick in at that time, making Peacock available in 24 million homes. |
Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
I kept reading X1 as Xbox One and wondering why they cut a deal with Microsoft.
Are they planning like some major additions with the actual non soft rollout? Otherwise this has about as much buzz as Quibi, maybe less so because at least I knew when Quibi launched. |

Edit : Okay, scrolling up I see that it wasn't all basic cable, but it was supposed to include me (I have Cox). Is that no longer the case? :hscratch: It's still the case. See the pre-order prices for a yearly subscription that I posted earlier. There's a "free" version which is apparently limited in the type of content you can watch. And paid ad supported version that allows you to watch everything and Lastly an Ad free version which costs about $50 more than the paid ad supported version. Only Comcast subscribers get it for free since it's part of NBC/Universal. |

Peacock just licensed a bunch of Paramount and ViacomCBS shows/movies. That makes sense. And the Paramount network show Yellowstone will also be streaming on Peacock. That makes no sense. You would think CBS All-Access would get the rights. NBCUniversal’s Peacock, nearing its nationwide launch on July 15, has reached a licensing deal with ViacomCBS covering movies from Paramount and TV shows from across the company. Under the deal, films from Paramount will stream on Peacock in limited exclusivity windows throughout 2021, 2022, and 2023. The roster includes The Godfather trilogy, Catch Me If You Can, The Talented Mr. Ripley, American Beauty, Patriot Games, Last Holiday, Fatal Attraction, The Firm and An Officer and a Gentleman. TV series headed to Peacock on July 15 include Ray Donovan, The Affair, Undercover Boss, The Game, Everybody Hates Chris and Real Husbands of Hollywood. Charmed will be added in October. Shows and films will still be available on ViacomCBS platforms and, apart from the months-long exclusives for Paramount films, all will be eligible for the forthcoming expansion of CBS All Access. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish recently said the streaming service will be broadened out this summer in a preview version ahead of a full reboot in 2021. “We are truly excited to bring some of the most popular movies and series from across the ViacomCBS family of brands to Peacock,” said Frances Manfredi, President, Content Acquisition and Strategy, Peacock. “We continue to expand the Peacock catalog with premium programming from NBCUniversal and beyond; partnering with companies like ViacomCBS to ensure that all of our viewers can choose from the best entertainment options available in the market today.” Peacock launched in April across the Comcast footprint, free for Xfinity broadband and pay-TV customers. In two weeks, it will go much broader. Its free, ad-supported tier will include 7,500 hours of film and TV content. A premium, ad-supported tier will be $5 a month (free for Comcast customers), with anyone able to pay an additional $5 a month for an ad-free version. The premium level will have 15,000 hours of programming. |
Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
The Godfather 3? Nah, I’ll pass on this entire service.
|
Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
I went ahead today and pre-ordered Peacock for the $79.99/1-year special. I went ahead and went all out with no ads. That's about $6.67/month There is a cheaper version for $29.99 with ads. And yes, there is a "free" version with ads, but it only gets about 1/2 the content.
It goes live in 10 days. As of right now, it does not have Roku or Amazon support like HBO Max. But, I do have an Apple TV 4K, which it does support, so I got it. I have a 4K switch and go back and forth using my Roku and Apple TV. Obviously with this not having Roku or Amazon support like HBO Max, I assume the majority here will pass on it. NBC does have a huge back catalog of shows I want to re-visit. Especially OG Law and Order and Criminal Intent which I never watched regularly. I read that NBC is still going to support Hulu for at least 2 more years and then they may pull all of their shows to move here. |

I am trying to decide if I should sign up or not. I wish I knew how disruptive the commercials were. Asking for $80 up front when we have like no idea what will be on their service is a kind of big ask. |

Yes, free as in $0. Even if you pay $30 for the year, you’ll still get ads so the only incentive to pay that is the added content and unrestricted next day streaming of Comcast owned channel programs. I’m doing the free tier unless someone confirms that Psych The Movie: Lassie Come Home actually requires payment. |

Add in the occasional Disney+ sub for new seasons of Mandalorian and I’m set. I refuse to let my programming bill start approaching what I used to overpay for cable.

You're right. Netflix has the head start on programming and Prime (despite being terrible as a standalone video service) is basically just an add on to the free two day shipping. Both take priority over any of these new services. Add in if you really like a niche like anime, you'll probably subscribe to a niche service. These are broader but there's only so much time to watch stuff and if you're satisfied with what you are already paying for, it's a tough sell to pay for more or even to bother rotating things in and out.
I understand the feeling. There's only so much time in the day to watch TV and stream and it's simply not possible to keep up with everything no matter how great the service looks or how great the content looks. If you don't have the time, then it's a waste of money. Most of you guys have families and full-time jobs, thus you simply don't have the time or disposable income to invest in every cool streaming service. |

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
Peacock is now live! I signed in on my Apple TV 4K with no troubles.
It's a mix of Live TV and VOD content including movies. There's quite a bit of stuff. Lots of old NBC, USA and other NBC owned cable shows along with classic shows. Even some Showtime series on there. OG Law and Order is on there (it's never had a streaming deal), but only seasons 13-20 right now. I assume it has to do with current licensing deals. |

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service
I spent about an hour going through the curation of content and it’s pretty good to start out.
HBO Max has an edge because it has a much stronger curation of movies. But this one also includes live TV and will include live sports starting today. So it’s a pretty good start. I just don’t know if I have enough time in the day to really maximize it. I’ll try though. Well the live TV section is mostly focused on NBCUniversal content. There’s actually a live The Office channel that shows shorts. |

I have Samsung and Roku and neither have Peacock at this time (or the time I left the house, about 2 hours ago).
