Some subscribers to Max will access to live HBO channels. I guess that doesn't mean much for most since most just watch everything on demand. |

The HBO live linear channels showed up on my Max main screen. I think there are 4 of them.

The West Wing was recently pulled from Max. It sounded like no one was watching it over the holidays and WB wanted to save money. But, they reversed their decision and it will be back tomorrow. That is the dilemma with streaming sometimes. Do you re-visit classic shows or shows that are long over that you haven't seen? Or do you work on your backlog of current stuff? |

I tend to only watch one series at a time, otherwise I lose track of what episodes I’ve seen.

Justwatch.com has a nice tracker too. Just add them to Track Show, and you can go in and "check" each episode you've watched.
Go to the show, click Tracking (under the image) then check Watchlist. You can check the episodes here, or go here after you've added them: https://www.justwatch.com/us/lists/tv-show-tracking |

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
I never understood why Netflix did this, they already limited the simultaneous streams to 2 with their regular tier, so password sharing was very limited and controlled. These arguments that you'd share your account with 10 friends was purely imaginary. All it did was prevent me from keeping me and my daughter in college on the same account. Max should just limit the streams then the worst password sharing offenders would be gone

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
I have two residences. I'll be at one for work 4-5 days a week and the other when I'm off work 2-3 days a week. I use streaming for all my tv watching and it can be a pain if I don't remember to log in on my mobile device on my primary network for Netflix once a month. If you have multiple homes, you shouldn't have to have multiple streaming accounts for each home.

I do think if you have two homes then you've probably got a step up on most and maybe 8 bucks isn't as big of a deal? ;) Does the article talk about how they handle mobile devices? I'd assume like the others the restriction is more on like tv devices. |
Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
[QUOTE=PerryD;14594486]I never understood why Netflix did this, they already limited the simultaneous streams to 2 with their regular tier, so password sharing was very limited and controlled../QUOTE]
The higher tiers offer more simultaneous streams, which makes them even better for splitting among friends, and those come with extra features like 4K support and spatial audio, so those were even more economical to split. I've heard of groups of friends of 4 or more where each household pays for one service and shares with the other, so they have 4 or more streaming services split among as many households. The proliferation of streaming services with companies launching their own like Disney+, Max, Paramount+. Peacock, etc. made this possible. And especially on the ad-free tiers, each stream costs Netflix money, so their margins per account were likely getting tight. These streaming services actually benefit most if people opt for the cheap with-ads option, since they make more money the more you stream, since they serve more ads, vs. the ad-free, where each stream is a cost they have to deduct from your subscription fee. They were only ok with password sharing when it meant their overall subscription base, and thus revenue, increased. Now that the market is saturated with many competitors, they now have to squeeze each account for as much money as they can, and the numbers show that when they restrict password sharing, they don't lose that many customers, and gain revenue from "extra member" add-ons to accounts, or straight-up additional accounts. |

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
We have T-Mobile, so that's how we're getting great breaks on Netflix and AppleTV+ and we got in on the grandfathered $99 Hulu with $3.99/month Disney+ bundle so I'm reticient to mess with that grandfathered pricing tier. Other services bundle HBO MAX, then? We have the rest: Amazon Prime, Paramount+, Peacock, etc.
|
Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
I still have the grandfathered ad free Disney bundle (and Apple Music) included in my plan from Verizon. Holding on to it as long as Verizon lets me!

Those MAX bundles are for the HD streams, so you'll lose 4K/DV?HDR/ATMOS across the board. Not worth it for me.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
Max remove a ton of reality shows. Not sure anyone here shed a tear for that but just a heads up:
https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comm...shows_quietly/ |
Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
And with the removal of reality shows, they're going to focus back on certain contact, and rebranding to... HBO Max.
https://www.vulture.com/article/hbo-...me-change.html In a press release explaining the rationale for this latest, latest rebranding, WBD said this “evolution” came after months of Max paring down its offering to “de-prioritizing other genres that drive less engagement or acquisition,” including recently removing hundreds of hours of the Discovery-branded reality shows that the Max name was meant to encompass. “No consumer today is saying they want more content, but most consumers are saying they want better content,” WBD’s release said. “With other services filling the more basic needs with volume, WBD has clearly distinguished itself through its quality and distinct stories, and no brand has done that better and more consistently over 50+ years than HBO.” This was two years ago: https://www.vulture.com/2023/04/hbo-...rvice-wbd.html The streaming service set to replace HBO Max will be called — drumroll, please! — Max. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav today officially unveiled the name of the company’s new flagship platform, which will combine content from Discovery+ with the programming on HBO Max. |

When the new app is available, your device should auto update it. |
Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
It's weird to me that Zaslav can stand up there and with a straight face say this is a win (and probably collect a big bonus). Usually this kind of thing goes back after a change of leadership where they can blame someone else for the past mistake.
