Yeah, I remember the days of 'What's Coming & Going on Netflix in April' (for example). 'Removal of 12 Major Movies' seems a bit hyperbolic to me.

Click bait at its worst.

Last month and this month, Max started issuing press releases with full lists of what’s coming and going in the upcoming month, which is a good thing since they neutered the Leaving Soon list in the new Max interface. Here’s the full list for next month:

HBO in particular as a linear channel changes up their lineup at the same time at the beginning of the month. But it's good that they're giving people notice again, always thought it was crappy to pull things with no warning considering they know in advance when they're pulling things.

Giantrobo 07-31-23 05:17 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Yeah it's just a small list, but it's still cool to get a heads up about any films coming and going. Apologies to all you cool kids that can't be bothered :(

Anyone having weird audio issues on the MAX app no Roku where the sound gets hollow? Like the sound gets weird and I have to go out of the thing I'm viewing and come back in to fix it.

It's not your fault Robo, you didn't write the headline!
FWIW posting the link without comment made *me* at least assume your post was in line with 'oh my god this is an outrage! They're DELETING 12 MAJOR MOVIES!!1'
rather than, 'here's what's leaving HBO in august'

Isn’t it actually 19 getting removed?

There are a ton of movies getting removed (and a ton getting added), they just picked 12 of them.

I don't know why they'd remove the Venture bros. christmas movie but ok.

I think they're removing all of Venture Bros, not just the Christmas special. At least, on my Prime Max subscription, each season says it's leaving in 12 days.

Dang, there was that one screenshot someone posted with the old HBO Max logo that said they were leaving but I was hoping it was a hoax. Why? Ugh.

edited to add:
Wait screenrant said they reached out to Max and they denied it was leaving in August:
https://screenrant.com/venture-bros-...ckson-publick/

My app doesn't show a removal, so I hope it's not true.

Looks like Max will simulcast live sports on the service this Fall. MLB, NBA, NHL and NCAA

For an additional charge...

Seems like a paid tier service mainly with sports airing on TBS and TNT (and I guess Bleacher Report). I wonder if AEW will get included. Depending on price, seems like a good option for cord cutters but if you already have those channels, maybe not.

Considering NBA on TNT (and AEW) are one of the primary reasons I still have cable though...

DJariya 08-07-23 03:33 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

The CNBC article doesn't confirm a upcharge yet, but it's probably likely. Sports is really expensive and they just can't give it away at the current price tier, especially for cord cutters.

I might be interested in this depending on the price and commitments. Would like to get MLB and NBA playoffs.

Wouldn't want my normal Max subscription to go up if I didn't get these.

fujishig 08-07-23 07:17 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Considering they bent over backwards to allow the Discovery+ folks to keep a cheaper subscription even when the services were combined, I'd think they'd want to allow the Max subscribers to have a choice as well (because sure the price would go way up for everyone otherwise). I guess we'll see.

New annoyance with this piece of shit app. Pausing something causes it to go back 1-2 minutes in whatever I am watching. I can't believe they thought this app was better than the HBO Max app.

Does it go back as soon as you first pause or when you hit pause again to resume? Mine works fine but I'm on a Fire Stick.

When I hit the play button to resume.

I checked it out on The Flash and it works as it should.

I'm having this right now watching Flash on my Roku sound bar. Hit pause come back and hit Play and it takes me back to the same scene where I hit pause earlier.

Yep. Having the same issue on the Roku MAX app. Noticed it the other day.

Me too! Just happened while watching The Flash on the Roku MAX app. Paused it once about 15 minutes in. Continued watching and then paused it again about 90 minutes in. When I tried to continue, it took me back to that earlier pause point. Weird.

Hm, sounds like a Roku app issue then. I tried it on my Fire TV Stick, and it works fine.

Yup, on a Roku. Such a buggy shitty app.

DJariya 08-27-23 08:59 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

They should not have messed with the previous Roku interface. All they had to do was rebrand it. The app does have the glitches that have been mentioned. Also, what I have experienced is when I visit the "Warrior" page, the artwork does not show up. It's a blank screen that you have to scroll down to locate the episodes tab.

The other thing I don't like is how they ditched the bonus features for some of the movies that had them. And I don't like how they present new releases and how they present movies that are leaving at the end of the month. It's hard to keep track.

Special 2 month promo with some AMC+ content being available on Max

A slew of series from AMC Networks including Fear The Walking Dead, A Discovery of Witches and Killing Eve will stream on Max as part of an unusual digital arrangement.

AMC Networks and Warner Bros. Discovery have struck a deal for a “programming pop-up” that will see more than 200 episodes of seven titles will launch on Max, formerly known as HBO Max.

The shows will be available from September 1 through October 31.

Titles available are seasons one through seven of Fear the Walking Dead, three seasons of A Discovery ofWitches, four seasons of Killing Eve, season one of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, two seasons of Gangs of London, season one of Dark Winds, and five seasons of Ride with Norman Reedus.

The shows will be available on both the ad-free and ad-lite Max services for no extra cost. They will be part of the AMC+ Picks on Max rail on the service and will not include advertising.

My Max subscription is scheduled to renew on September 11th.

I'm curious, Is or has anyone renewed for the Ultimate Ad-Free plan that is $199? I'm just wondering if anyone thinks it's worth the extra $50 from the regular Ad-Free plan.

Do you think paying the extra $50 for 4K for the year is worth it? That seems to be the real big difference.

My subscription also renews at the end of September and if I remember correctly, they're giving me a $50 discount to renew for the year. $149.99. I do believe the 4K is worth paying for. I mean, it is for me.

Unfortunately a very limited selection from AMC+, nothing on my list is included. Still waiting for Max to pick up season 4 of Nancy Drew.

DJariya 09-01-23 01:27 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Yes, the amount of shows from AMC is limited as mentioned above when I posted the news.

Fear the Walking Dead has the most content, but this forum has completely fallen off on it. Gangs of London is a worthy watch, especially the 1st season, if you haven't seen it. It's "The Raid" quality action.
