Probably rights issues they're needing to play out first before Max gets it.

I know that. Around 2013-14 they basically killed their softcore porn programming, but they still own many series from the Skinemax days like Hotel Erotica, Co-Ed Confidential and Lingerie. That programming still has a pretty solid fanbase, specially when you look at how some of the few DVD releases they did sell for good money. Merging Cinemax and this late night programing with HBO Max seems like a no-brainer.

Especially when they name the service HBO Max.

HBO killed their own late-night stuff a few years ago so I’m guessing they wouldn’t want to return to that path with this service that seems intended to be even more mainstream.

Yeah, I mentioned how one was listed in the Last Chance area but I was too lazy to check on the status of the others.

Clearly these legacy contracts need to play out before the offerings make complete sense, like how HBO Max has some Disney titles like Sky High. Those who have only one service know what they should watch first!

Some movies on HBO Max do have extras/Extended Cuts.

i noticed Aliens and Sucker Punch have their extended cuts in an extras section similar to what Disney + does.

I fully understand for the HBO licensed titles (like the Meg, Us, etc.) why they had to include them on the service even though they're leaving at the end of the month. I have no idea why they'd even include two out of three Hobbit movies at launch if they were going to remove them (not even sure how to find out when they'll be removed)

Also, what streaming service is licensing Catwoman in this day and age? And they're really licensing out Justice League? Aren't the people that paid to have that on their service going to be ticked when they will simultaneously have a Director's Cut version on this service?

That Snyder cut of Justice League isn't coming out anytime soon; it's scheduled for some time in 2021. I assume the streaming rights to the movie will have reverted back to WB by then.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Apparently I have free Max with my development's Xfinity package.

DD+ isn't working on my Shield, same as Go. Only have DD standard.

Same bitrate starved 720p streams upscaled to 1080p. HBO really needs to upgrade their streaming infrastructure if they want to compete.

I really can't see myself watching much on here until they improve the quality of the streams.

I can see them doing this from time to time, but unlike Disney+, I highly doubt we'll see extras.

“We’ll give you the Batman movies, but you have to take Catwoman too.”

Whoa wait, you can disable Netflix auto play if you log in on a browser? (which I almost never do for Netflix). I hate that shit, if I can turn it off that's great!

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Without reading through the whole thread, do any Canadians here know what will be happening in Canada with this? I have Crave, which includes normal HBO programming (as well as Showtime), and they are now advertising that they will have some HBO Max shows. Or will HBO Max proper be coming to Canada (maybe as an extra add on to Crave like normal HBO is?). Or will it be like DC Universe, where for example Doom Patrol ended up on Crave while Titans ended up on Canadian Netflix. Kind of the same with Hulu, we have Disney+ in Canada but no Hulu (but some Hulu shows like The Handmaid's Tale are on Crave), so I'm wondering where the more adult Marvel cartoons for example will end up in Canada.

I don't think that HBO Max will be coming to Canada since Crave and HBO Max signed an exclusive deal to get all of the Exclusive Programming from the service. We are definitely out of the loop for the movies and non exclusive tv shows unless they will be licensing it through Crave or separately with other stream services and thus the reason why Friends is still on Netflix Canada.

Take a look at the articles with some details

Yes that's where they "hid" it... both for next episode and previews.

Show is called The Knick. On the Cinemax/Cinemax Go service. Or buy the blu or digital of it. Very good show.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Yeah, we’ve discussed before, but I wish the Cinemax shows were on this service, even though I already have all of Banshee and Strike Back on Vudu (and one season of The Knick). I’ll probably end up buying Warrior and Jett.

There’s currently an HBO sale on Vudu that includes Banshee, Strike Back, and The Knick so HBO is clearly acknowledging that they have the rights to those shows. They’re just not here, just as they weren’t on HBO.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Based on the way this whole HBO Max was put together and executed, I'm guessing incorporating Cinemax will be somewhere in the next phase or two. It only makes sense at this point.

I’m watching The Abyss now. It’s the theatrical version. No special edition on here. Haven’t seen it in like 20 plus years.
