I'm hearing the $23 discount is if you lock in for 3 years. Going to be offered online to D23 people too.

Sign me up! I dropped Netflix two months ago and haven't missed it one bit. This is a no brainer.

Are we sure we can trust that article, though? I mean...
...shows focused on popular Marvel characters Hawkeye, Falcon / the Winter Solider...
Might as well start a show about "Bleeding Gums" Murphy and Dr. Marvin Monroe. They're just as popular.

Here's the info about the 3 year discount:
IDK, if you need to sign in to D23 to see this, but you can get a free D23 General Membership with your Disney credentials.

https://d23.com/special-disney-plus-...xpo-attendees/

The countdown is on! We’re just a few months away from the highly anticipated launch of Disney+, the ultimate streaming destination for movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more. Later this week at D23 Expo 2019 in Anaheim, California, attendees will get the opportunity to be the first to subscribe to Disney+ with a special “Founders Circle” offer, granting $23 off per year with a three-year commitment, averaging out to be 33 percent off the standard annual price. As an added bonus, they will receive an exclusive “Founders Circle” pin (exclusively at D23 Expo, while supplies last). The offer is open to all D23 Expo guests for a limited period during the D23 Expo (August 22–25); it will be available online from August 26 through September 2 exclusively for D23 Members. Valid for US residents with US payment method only.
PS, I hate you Disney.

Well fuck that then. D23 membership is not free, so that negates the savings. Make it available to non-members at that price and then we'll talk.

There is a general free D23 account you can make. Unclear if that will work for this.

There's no indication what type of "member" you have to be yet:
https://prelaunchhelp.disneyplus.com...ounders-Circle
The site is live to enter your code: https://founders.disneyplus.com/
And there is the free "general" membership I mentioned above. Knowing Disney, I'm not hopeful though.

I'd wait until 8/26 but if you have the DMR points, you can get a free 1 year D23 membership. I think it's over 5000 points though.

I think having just PG13 or softer shows and movies will hurt them in the International markets as there’s no Hulu.

I believe Japan has Hulu but are they any plans to expand internationally?

The original content looks great. But I'm still not sold on "500 films and over 7,000 episodes". That's pretty small considering the size of their catalog. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed at all the stuff that isn't available.

IIRC, they said there is going to be waves of content releases. I bet it's at least double that amount by the end of year one with the service.

Well, the shit option of their rated-r fare (possibly) ending up on HULU is that it will most likely all be in 2.0 stereo.

If they’re doing 4K without an upcharge on Disney+, I’m guessing Hulu will get overhauled to some extent. I doubt it’ll stay at 2.0 sound.

I am glad to see Disney+ will let you download everything for offline viewing.

I think this is going to take several years before it comes to full fruition, including the back catalog. I'm not worried that Disney may short change their content. The really old stuff is probably still sitting in the vaults and will need to go through remasters to become airable on modern HDTVs or 4K HDTVs.

Five hundred films out of everything they own does seem pretty light.

Walt Disney pictures launched almost 80+ years ago. They aren't going to have everything at launch or even in the first year or two. Like I said, I believe this is going to take several years to get most of their historical content on it aside from constantly coming new movies and shows.

But is that strictly Disney content or including Fox now and everything else that they own? I get slow roll outs are how these services like to work but still. Disney and Fox combined have massive libraries and a lot of that content is in HD.

It's Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

Only thing FOX related as if right now is Simpsons.

Every episode of Malcolm in the Middle, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Bride are at least three other Fox related properties on Disney+ that have been previously announced.

Sounds like Disney+ is getting into HDR/DV/Atmos big time. This is making Netflix and Apple look really pale in comparison.

Of course, not supporting it on physical media makes this a head scratcher.

One article I read said that some of the titles will have bonus materials like behind the scenes featurettes and audio commentaries.

That's also a nice addition for those who no longer support physical media and an incentive to subscribe.

Like Criterion does on their channel on certain editions.
