If you've never used one of these services, going Grid Based instead of channel numbers does take getting used to, but you can create a custom smaller grid of Favorite channels to make navigation easier.

Re: YouTube TV -- Live TV streaming service
I'm about a week in and I'm liking YouTube TV so far. I like that I can call it up at work and watch the Olympics. I don't like that the DVR records every episode of a show. I wish it could be set to new episodes only. I'm sure that I'll get used to it though.

When you "fast forward" through a show on the DVR does it only skip forward 15 seconds at a time? That's all I've been able to do so far.

What device are you using? There are two types of FF. If you press FF (or right arrow on remote) once, that is the 15 second skip. If you press and hold either it gives you 15 second FF, but continuous and at a much faster rate. So yes, you can only get 15 seconds at a time, but there are two different speeds to go those 15 seconds.

Re: YouTube TV -- Live TV streaming service
I'm using a Roku streaming stick. Holding the button down works for me. I didn't realize you had to hold it down. I guess I've been accustomed to pressing fast forward once on a cable/satellite remote control all my life. Thanks for the tip.

Is this considered the best live TV service these days or have others like Hulu caught up?

Depends on your channel preferences and price you're willing to pay. It's my current favorite provider and I prefer it over Hulu for a few reasons, but the biggest was that I use it at multiple places when I travel and Hulu Live is stupidly strict about changing locations on TV-based devices.

Pretty much - you'll get used to whichever interface you get.
In terms of interface, Playstation TV (Defunct) and YouTube TV have been my favorites.
Some of the perks here are the included unlimited DVR, integrates with Movies Anywhere, can have 3 simultaneously streams across 5 associated Google accounts ("Google Family" feature), doesn't limit address changes (it's 4 per year on Hulu Live), nice interface, very well done web version (even if you never use it), local channels, very large VOD library (episodes get overwritten if you DVR an episode so you can fast forward through the commercial breaks, which you can't do on VOD).
Downside: I feel like all these services are getting a bit pricey. But it's been worth it so far.

The cloud DVR is great. The only downside is that it records every episode. The main reason I switched to YouTube TV is the DVR, all the sports channels for football season, and I can watch it anywhere. You have to pay an extra $9.99 a month to fast forward through recordings on Hulu. YouTube doesn’t charge extra to fast forward through recordings.

Re: YouTube TV -- Live TV streaming service
So my work gave me a free 6 month subscription to YouTube TV. I don't really need it, but I won't turn down free things from my job.
They only gave the basic $65 per month plan.
My biggest gripe as mentioned is the cloud DVR recording every single episode (new and old) of your designated favorite shows. And you can't even delete them.
Channel selection is limited in this plan including no RSNs. But I understand that was done to keep costs down for the cheapest plan, especially for those who don't like paying the sky rocketing sports costs.
I suppose I'll get some use out of his in case I'm traveling or at work. But, I don't see myself subscribing to this as a replacement for DirecTV. No Lakers or Dodgers RSNs is a deal breaker for me.
But, I can see this being attractive to people trying to cut back on entertainment expenses as it gets more and more expensive every year.

There aren't any "basic plans" for YTTV. Everyone gets the same channels for the $65.00. Then, you can add "packs" that are grouped together for similar genres for extra. YTTV doesn't have any RSNs, really. There are a few in select markets, but they aren't offering any of the Bally's stuff or any other of the regional ones. Part of keeping costs down.

Yeah, RSNs are mostly gone from streaming providers for the time being, Sinclair wants their $22/month.

NFL RedZone went down for about ten minutes. It’s back now. I think it was on RedZone’s end, because I couldn’t watch it via the NFL app either.

NBC Universal owned channels are endangered of being dropped by YouTube TV.
Yes that would include NBC (losing football on Sunday nights) and the NBC RSNs.
I guess Google is playing super hardball with carriage rates.

Re: YouTube TV -- Live TV streaming service
Eh these disputes are pretty normal,, but YouTube TV knows losing NBC during football season would be a disaster, and NBC knows it as well.
