Added a number of Cartoon Network catalog titles. It's great to see Samurai Jack again, but it runs at 1mbps, so it kind of looks substandard.

Looks like Hulu quietly added most of the run of The X-Files in HD. It looks fantastic. It's like watching a different show.

Showtime's OTT service is rumored to cost $11/month. So $9/month is a good price if you're getting the same content.

Re: Hulu Plus -- News and Notable New additions
Looks like Hulu will be paying for the $2 discount.
Hulu Will Sell Showtime on the Web, Too — At a 20 Percent Discount
If you want a digital subscription to Showtime, you can buy one from Apple, Sony or Roku for $11 a month starting in July.
But if you pay for a subscription to Hulu’s premium service, you can also pick up a Showtime subscription from the video service — for $9 a month.
The 20 percent difference in the two plans, announced today, says a lot about Hulu’s ambitions to build up its TV-on-the-Web service: Hulu says it will pay for the $2 discount out of its own pocket, in the hope of convincing more people to buy its base subscription service at $8 a month — for a total of $17 a month. (Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported Showtime’s price via Apple, Sony and Roku).
“What we’re basically figuring is that by adding these two services together, we think that consumers are entitled to a discount. We really wanted to be aggressive coming out of the gate,” said Tim Connolly, who heads up distribution for Hulu. “We’re interested in selling Showtime, but we’re more interested in selling Showtime and Hulu together.”

It's widescreen. They cropped the tops/bottoms but also opened the framing on left/right.
ie:
Unlike The Simpsons, Seinfeld never really a visually intensive show, as long as we don't miss leg motions from a few key episodes it shouldn't make a huge difference.

WSJ: Hulu's working on a premium tier with no ads
Would you kick in a few extra bucks to watch Hulu without those grating pre-roll ads, because it might become an option pretty soon. Anonymous tipsters have told the Wall Street Journal that the company is working on "Project NOAH," which stands for "NO Ads Hulu," a new pricing tier that ditches ads outright. The people familiar with the matter haven't gone into specifics, but suggest that the offering could be priced between $12 and $14 a month, a fairly big leap from the $7.99 a regular subscription costs. Then again, considering that the Showtime add-on is a further $8.99 a month, we could easily imagine a premium Hulu package that went for a round $20.
The move is designed to Hulu better compete with its rivals, Netflix and Amazon Prime, both of which are proudly free of commercials. When rumors surfaced that Netflix was even considering adding commercials, there was plenty of uproar and the company was quick to issue a strong denial. Hulu could also do with raking in a little more cash since it splashed out the better part of $180 million for the streaming rights to Seinfeld.
The paper also reports that there's some resistance to the ad-free tier coming from Hulu's corporate parents. It's suggested that these media companies feel resentful to Netflix for making people expect to binge TV shows without having to pause for a message from a sponsor. That's a fact that puts plenty of executive noses out of joint, since they feel that ads remain a key component of the TV landscape (because: money). As a sop, it's believed that Hulu will use its audience data to target relevant products to people since, you know, you only resent paying for the privilege of watching an advert if it's for something you're not likely to buy.

Has anyone else been having problem streaming from the Hulu iOS app after the July 17th update? My app loads but when I choose an episode of the show, it buffers and kicks me out of the app.

Re: Hulu Plus -- News and Notable New additions
I prefer to binge-watch. But I've got to agree that much of the excitement is lost when they release all the episodes at once.
Hulu Sticks With Weekly Release Schedule For Original Series
Hulu has vowed to stick with a weekly release schedule for episodes of its growing slate of original comedy and drama series.
“We value the shared experience and the joy of the water cooler that is television,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s senior VP and head of content, on Sunday in opening the netcaster’s portion of the Television Critics Assn. press tour.
Netflix blazed a trail in the way TV series are released in 2013 when it launched drama “House of Cards” by making all 13 episodes available at once. Since then, virtually all of Netflix’s original series have been released in season-long batches, as has Amazon.
But in recent months there’s been debate in the industry about whether the all-at-once release costs a show the opportunity to have buzz and social media chatter build on a week-by-week basis, especially for shows where the storyline builds to a big finale.
A weekly episode premiere pattern will make it easier for viewers to “discover” Hulu series, Erwich said. It will also allow the service to keep a steady stream of shows premiering as they won’t have to wait until all episodes are completed, he said.

Re: Hulu Plus -- News and Notable New additions
A couple of questions :
1) Mr. Robot streams on Hulu Plus, but it seems only on the website, not on any streaming app. Why is that and are there other shows like that? I wanted to watch that series.
2) I started watching Taxi with my daughter and discovered that while they have all five seasons of the show, they only have about 60-70% of each season's episodes with no rhyme or reason to the missing episodes. Do other series have this quirk? Is it somehow related to music licensing?

1) This is how they signed their streaming licence. If you want to watch it, the computer is your only option.
2) Don't know since if it's music, they should at least have the edited episodes.
