$1/mo... I'd pay that to remove ads. I'm not willing however to pay $6/mo to remove them especially when my service already costs $6/mo.

Can someone tell me why Hulu is suddenly expiring from all my devices. I used to love that Optimum had a dedicated channel in cable guide for Hulu. Then, it said it was going bye bye and then it did. Now, just looked at Sony Blu-ray player and says it’s app expiring in August. That was really my go to bc it always looked the best. So now it would be through Bravia tv and I guess Xbox, which I haven’t done. But maybe they will expire. So what gives? Why leave these devices?

They don't really explain why but this is the email I got although I don't even use the blu-ray player anymore.

Hulu Will No Longer Be Streaming on Samsung Orsay Blu-ray

While we aren’t able to support the Hulu app on Samsung Orsay Blu-ray starting on June 26, 2019, the good news is there are other ways to have the full Hulu Experience.

Continue to stream your favorite shows and movies by upgrading to any of our supported devices or operating systems

If you would like help setting up a new device, or you have any additional questions, check out our Help Center.

We are sure you’ll love our updated look.

They probably just don't want to pay to support/update the apps for security updates and the like.

I think stuff like HBO Go and WWE online, for instance, aren't supported on the PS3/Xbox 360 anymore, which would seem to be a large audience.

Anyone else watching Handmaid's Tale? With work, the kid, and the hubs, I only get 20 mins a day or so to watch movies/TV, so it'll take a while. Any "free" time I get I'm snoozing

Is Hulu the best, or at least an adequately good way, of getting HBO and Showtime? We just cancelled satellite but want to sub to HBO and Showtime. Through Hulu would be best because (I assume?) we won't need another password. Does subbing through them offer what we want, which is primarily access to the streaming of current programming? I think it's free to try for a week so we'll do that, but if there's a better interface than Hulu, ideally without requiring a new logon, I'm open to suggestions.

I had HBO on Hulu and it worked fine. You should use the free week to play around with it and make sure you like. If you have Amazon Prime, you can add it and Showtime on there as another option, but I prefer Hulu's interface to Amazon's.

Hulu has the closet cable-like look to it. We’ve been using Hulu/Hulu Live with the HBO/Cinemark add-ons and they work great with the layout and how they function with the rest of the channels.

Is there a way to tell what quality my Hulu through Blu-ray player is playing at?

Usually sites like NF and AP show the HD symbol. Hulu I don’t see anything and I have been seeing some vastly wavering quality where is gets like SD blurry.

I never had problem before and very strong connection. No buffering issues or anything, but quality dips back and forth often recently. Other streaming, NF, AP, Vudu, never an issue.

The show is Younger (S4) btw...

Honestly, I don't know anyone who regularly uses any app on a blu ray player. I don't think Hulu dedicates that kind of interface to give you information like that.

Yeah I stopped using the app on my player a long rime ago.
Apps work better Roku or Amazon fire, I’m ipusing the Apple TV now. I think everything comes out of that at 1080p.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Well, I have google tv and Xbox to play it on, but Blu-ray was always more convenient. It is actually expiring as an app on player in August, and was thinking of getting fire stick, but player was best interface and convenient imo...

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Go Roku for best interface. Trust me, it’s miles better than anything you’ve seen on the blu ray player app.

Why only on those devices? So frustrating. I can get Netflix and Amazon in 4k HDR and Dolby Vision without a special device but not Hulu? Dumb.

OldBoy 07-12-19 05:47 PM

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

i even got an email from Hulu saying my Sony player, that's linked, will be discontinuing service of Hulu in mid Aug. so dumb. why not have as many devices as possible to show to subscribers and gain more subscribers with the most devices possible. does it cost them to keep on a device as an app?

and i have a fire stick now so i will be using it when player app goes bye bye. just liked it was always one remote. now, have to get used to Fire Stick remote, which is fine, but a little bit of pain for me being used to one for so so long. and show or app doesn't even pause if i got to TV for awhile. it goes back to the home screen after a period of time which annoys me. bluray player never did that. oh well. no biggie...

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Get a Roku Express, they're $25 and use IR remotes.

Also while having it on a lot of platforms is great, having to support those platforms is costly and can make upgrading the back end incredibly costly, which may not be beneficial for the relatively low number of customers using those deprecated platforms.

Especially for Hulu, who still doesn't have 5.1 on every platform.

I bought a new cell phone and service plan from Sprint and they gave us Hulu for free. I haven't had the time to dig around on it, but my Wife says she really likes it.

GH is on there and Seinfeld is an exclusive.
If you have an AppleTV the Hulu app has a Yada Yada feature that plays Seinfeld in a random order.

https://www.slashfilm.com/hulu-disney-add-on/

Disney + will reportedly be offered as an add-on to Hulu.

Disney owns Hulu and it makes sense. I guess the advantage of this is keeping your Hulu and Disney + expenses under 1 charge.

I’ll definitely be taking that route.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

The reason I wouldn't consider Disney+ via HULU is because HULU does not support more than 2 channel audio except in a select few streaming devices.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

And one fewer password.
But no multichannel via Hulu is definitely a concern, especially with some of the marquee titles that'll be on Disney+. How to tell if Hulu is broadcasting something in >2.0?

Bleecker Street has signed an exclusive output deal with Hulu, granting the streamer SVOD rights to all upcoming theatrical releases.

The multiyear deal will include Bleecker's recent releases, including the Armie Hammer and Dev Patel-starrer Hotel Mumbai and the Elle Fanning-starrer Teen Spirit, as well as The Art of Self-Defense and the wrongful conviction biopic Brian Banks.

The indie distributor, founded in 2014, previously had a multiyear content licensing agreement with Amazon, which was inked in 2015.

“As we continue to expand our slate of films, we are always searching for the best partners to reach the broadest audience “ said Andrew Karpen, CEO of Bleecker Street. “We know Hulu subscribers will find something distinct and enlightening about each of our titles.”

“Hulu is committed to bringing impactful, quality films to audiences everywhere,” said Heather Moosnick, Hulu's senior vp content partnerships. “We’re excited to enter into this new partnership with Bleecker Street, whose commitment to excellence is recognized by moviegoers and the industry alike."
