Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

Crap, I bought one from Groupon the other day for $25. I was hoping it hadnt shipped yet so I could cancel and reorder, but it had.

But returns are free, so I reordered and will send the first one back.

I'm sure you could if you stood in front of a Home Depot for a few hours.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

A friend of mine bought this for me for Christmas last year, but I never use it.

With Directv and 2 Rokus for Netflix and Hulu along with my 2 game consoles, it just doesn't seem to have any real value to me in my household.

I've been loving my Chromecast more now that I know it will cast any video you play in your Chrome Browser on Android, insta-full framerate hd porn

With all of those other things, I wouldn't see any need for a Chromecast either. That said, I picked up another one to replace my oldest PS3 which has been reduced to a streaming device anyway and has gotten flaky lately. Two things I like about it that the other devices I have can't do: Google Music and tab-casting from my Chromebook.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

Chromecast is sorta free at Best Buy online right now.

$30, but comes with $20 Play credit from BB, then a bunch of Google offers including another $20.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

It was $20 at Target w/ $20 credit last week, wish I would have picked up a spare. The Fire TV Stick is turning out to be a bit of a dud for me.

Looks like you can get $6 for free from Google if you have a chromecast: http://gizmodo.com/check-your-chrome...t-n-1684263317

Awesome, thanks! It works for multiple Chromecasts, so I was able to get $12 off my 2.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

Came here to share this, but I see someone already got it.

When I checked my offers, I also got a free HD copy of X-Men. That'll go nicely with the free HD copy of The Fellowship Of The Ring - neither of which I'll watch via Google Play, but it's still a nice gesture.

I'll likely use my $6 to buy some TSTO Donuts.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

anyone else get "unknown error" messages with HBO GO?
using iOS app from iPad to Chromecast
no other apps giving this error and never have had an issue in the past ... resetting the Chromecast didn't help either

Do a factory reset on the Chromecast, seems like it happens from time to time.

Ah, when you said "resetting" I read that as "power cycled" as I'm used to walking my parents through this stuff.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

Here's my weirdness. Sometimes my YouTube app on my iPad Air will not "see" there is a Chromecast on the network when I try to connect. My iPhone and browsers on my computers will not have this problem.

Resetting the iPad fixes the problem, so more annoying than anything...

Bought Chromecast because my BD player won't cooperate won't HBO Go. I like it, though I wish that it'd work with Amazon and have an actual menu. If you don't have an iPhone or a tablet, can you even use it? Obviously I do, I'm just sort of curious.

You can cast from a PC or Android device. For a PC, it usually requires Chrome and the Chromecast extension.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

Google just released an Ethernet Adapter for the Chromecast.

https://store.google.com/product/_et...for_chromecast

Google’s Chromecast gets a hardwired Ethernet adapter
If you have Wi-Fi problems, you can now directly plug into your network.

Google's Chromecast is one of the easiest to use and most widely supported TV streaming sticks out there, but the only way to use it has been over a Wi-Fi connection. If your TV is out of range or your airways are too crowded, there really hasn't been a solution. Google just started selling a cool little accessory for Chromecast owners with Wi-Fi woes, though: a hardwired ethernet adapter for the Chromecast.

The accessory is a power brick that plugs into the Chromecast's USB port, and—in addition to providing power—embedded in the brick is a full-sized Ethernet port. Just plug in and you can forget about ever having to push bits over Wi-Fi again. The adapter is $15 on the Google Store, and it supports up to 100Mbps.

Re: The Google Chromecast Thread

I'm guessing this adapter would also work with the Nexus Player.
