Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I've got about 20-30 discs that are D2D-eligible but didn't work with the at-home software. Hopefully they'll read properly on this new mobile app.

It'll be interesting to see if new releases work with the new app. Most movies from the past 2-3 years were never compatible with the at-home version.

Like which ones? I thought just about all major studio releases over the past several years came with a digital code. Unless you bought the barebones versions.

I doubt it's that precise. I think any GPS-based location lock will need to include some leeway in the location.

www.blu-ray.com already has high quality scans of the back covers of most discs.

Multiple accounts would be messy to handle, and could possibly be automatically detected (same name/billing address). Also, 100 discs is still at least $200.

Finally, I think the "discless" hack of the PC D2D program still works, so there's already opportunities for people to game the system.

That might be it; studios aren't making newer titles compatible with D2D because they come with a UV code in their DVD and Blu-ray releases. This doesn't impact if you buy new, but could be an issue if you buy used.

That's what my list has mostly too. A lot of this didn't work on D2D or the ever popular, it should have detected it as "extended cut" and only gave me the theatrical version.

My only concerns are steelbooks/digibooks since I have thrown most of my cards/slips out, international discs and then those 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 packs. Just how it would be handled I guess. Hrmmm, I guess I'll give Scooby Doo 1/2 a try for the combo packs and then Whip It (Canadian version) for the international flavor.

Something else useful I did just realize is if you are one of those people who don't want to open certain pieces of media...you can just scan the UPC and put it back in your case.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

By the way, just checked the app...Mobile D2D appears to be ALIVE. Not that I'm at home, or have a disc with me or anything like that. But...it's alive, lol.

EDIT:By the way, it looks like the whole 50% off for 10 or more In-home D2D is gone. Everything is $2 or $5, mobile or in-home. (I will not be doing any $5's...I can tell you that )

Make sure that :

A)Your billing address in VUDU is valid.
B)Your location/GPS in the VUDU app is turned on.

Now with that in mind, according to a bunch of forums...there are PLENTY of issues with it. But from the sounds of your error message, it might be an easy fix.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Scanned about 20 UPCs and finally got Hook to work. Hooray for free movies.

Thanks, Jay G., for suggesting blu-ray.com.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Just tested it, and it worked for me. I even tested scanning a picture of a UPC, and that worked as well, although I didn't do it.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I was able to convert Jaws 3 DVD which never worked on the at-home software.

But after that, I tried a couple more and kept getting a UPC Not Recognized error.

There are also UPC Generators that might work as well.

Just scanned smokey and the bandit Blu-ray, which I did not have a digital code for. Converted no problem and got it for free

Called Vudu on phone for nearly half an hour. Nothing was resolved. She took some info down and opened a bullshit help ticket...

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

The aim for Vudu is to provide a convenient way for consumers to upgrade their physical movie collections to digital (and, of course, for Vudu to profit from that).
Not an upgrade.

According to the company, the average movie collector owns nearly 100 DVDs and Blu-rays.
Oh my god, I'm gonna die laughing here! I'm laughing so hard it's gonna shake all my shelves down and all my DVDs are gonna fall on me and bury me alive!

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I tried Open Range and no dice on that one. I swear, it seems like I'm never going to own that one in HD since there is no US blu ray release and the HD digital version is $18 on Amazon. So instead I scanned a copy of Balls of Fury for the free copy.

Open Range is a Touchstone movie. None of the Disney studios are compatible with D2D.

It sucks. I have a huge list of Touchstone movies that I would love to convert. They are all overpriced ($17.99) and almost never go on sale.

And I'm sure I'm way over a 1000 myself and we are not counting the 50-100 that's on my sell pile even. But yeah, I laughed pretty hard at that statement. I would show it to my wife and she would probably be yeah...you aren't normal, duh! I think her personal section isn't quite 100, probably 60-70...so I guess she's normal by VUDU standards .

ANYWAY, tried a bunch last night (35-40)...I think you will find the results disappointing for the most part. I'm going to compile them into a spreadsheet (it's Friday, I'm a little bored) and post a link in a bit. More to come.

EDIT:
Alright, this didn't take very long. Put into a table, hosted by my site. This is a direct link, no link off my main page yet unless I go somewhere with this. Also, no UPCs yet...that would require me taking my laptop upstairs and typing a LOT

http://www.kedrix.net/vudu-mobile-d2d/<--Site
Or if you just want the spreadsheet file<--Excel File

Positives: I guess I can go get all the Resident Evil I want and the correct cut of Zodiac. Outside of that, I'm struggling to really find a positive among my list. Really disappointed overall.

Scanned the old Secret of my Success dvd and it came up as HD. Grumble, should have used that as my freebie.
