Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

So why do some newer movies get basically all bluray special features in Vudu extras and some don't or only get 1 that seems exclusive to Vudu? Is it so people buy the hard copies? But then why do some have all?

Possibly.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

From what I remember hearing, some movies wouldn't be able to have extras put up because it's a rights issue (or at least, for older dvds, where they may not have thought about the possibility of streaming it in the future). Doesn't explain newer releases, though.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

It all depends on their agreements with the studios. VUDU likely wants to include extras, as an added incentive. However, UV doesn't include a mechanism for including extras, so VUDU is negotiating with each studio for each release. The studios reasons for including extras or not can all vary, possibly from release to release.

And yes, there's the consideration to make physical media more attractive, but there's also potentially rights issues with some extras, where the studios never planned for them to be on a digital download or streaming service, so they don't have the rights to put them up on those services, at least not without compensating the producers of said content, and possibly other people involved, for the expanded rights.

Mix and Match 3 for $19.99 (Father's Day related)

http://www.vudu.com/movies/#choice/19994

Mostly movies that should be more like 2 for $9.99...but Escape from NY is in here as is all twelve seasons of Two and a Half Men (at the very bottom). I'll probably skip it, but maybe others like what they see.

Ugh, Two and a Half Men? I'd pick up Escape from NY, Magnificent Seven, and...not sure on a third yet.

I'm more of an Anger Management fan personally if I'm going to get my Charlie Sheen fix. But sadly those never seem to go on sale. I wish there was a $5 VUDU credit floating around this week. I would just get EFNY on digital and call it a day. But it's hard to rationalize $10 on a digital movie that you have on disc three times over. (MGM Blu-Ray, Shout Blu-Ray, MGM 2 Disc DVD).

The only thing that is really appealing to me this week is this one at $3.99 for both episodes:

That looks like it could be good! I may have to pick that up.

Great. So now we're stuck with SD Disney stuff? Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

The Disney SD issue should be fixed now. If it hasn't registered on your Vudu library, go to the DMA site and disconnect/reconnect your Vudu account.

Yeah, some of the war and Westerns are interesting, but I'd prefer $5, and I could D2D a lot of them for $2-5 anyway.

While my DMA titles are now appropriate (without any unlink/relink), myUV is still not correct. And I still cannot do D2D. Fun times.

I read about this somewhere else online, but Thedigitalbits also just reported on this, alluding to the possibility that the SD downgrade was due to Disney possibly prepping for 4K options as part of their movies.

"Third, a few days ago, some users of Disney Movies Anywhere, a digital service that mirrors the UltraViolet program used by the other studios, discovered that many of their digital movies had suddenly been downgraded to standard definition. The titles that were affected seemed completely random. So our own Jeff Kleist, himself a frequent user of the service, began placing calls to the various services like VUDU, iTunes, Amazon, and Microsoft (that support Disney’s program) to find out what was going on, as Disney’s own helpline had closed for the night. While most of them simply acknowledged the problem and that they were working on it, one technician admitted to Jeff that the problem was caused by a format “reclassification” of certain movies, and that a fix would be coming soon. When Jeff asked if this meant that 4K format options were being added to the system, the technician was apparently less than convincing in feigning ignorance."

Did a few oddball Mobile2Digital Scans last night:

These are all DVD scans, but to my knowledge there are no blu-rays for any of them. (though this might indicate we'll get ones eventually for C&D or Undercover Brother)

Cloak and Dagger sd/hdx
Gladiator 1992 Cuba Gooding movie sd
Undercover Brother sd/hdx
Vampire in Brooklyn sd

Sales aren't very good this week, but I will point out a few sales.

Broadchurch (for those who only know Gracepoint, the American version, this is the British show that was the originator). Seasons 1 & 2 are $9.99 a piece which is the best price I've seen. Might be worth dropping the $20 for both seasons, especially if you got any credits.

Spaceballs & Trainspotting are also $4.99. But that's about it as far as I can see.

$0.10 Rentals - Today Only!

Only 30 movies to choose from, but there's some good titles.

https://www.vudu.com/movies/#uiList/72/1

When you rent a movie, you have 30 days to start watching. Once you start playing the movie, you have 24 hours to finish it.

Sheesh, 10 cents seems like a way to (1) make sure people have a credit card on file and (2) get them comfortable with making a transaction.

I just rented Hitchcock and The Tourist for 10 cents because I've been meaning to see them anyway.
