Re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

Saw a few films currently-priced at $2.99, which doesn't happen too often. Can't see a link or reason, but the four I stumbled across were:
  • Deconstructing Harry
  • The Humanity Bureau
  • Running With the Devil
  • Sweet & Lowdown.

Curious to know if there are more, there's a deliberate sale, or if it's a glitch.

If you go to the website, cheap charts tracks Fandango too. Set a price filter for under $3
There's a lot that dropped today, whether they're any good is another question.

EDIT: I didn't check them all, but they seem to be from Quiver Studio

There are a few good ones there. I grabbed Croupier starring Clive Owen. Heard it was good. I already own Skin, which is a pretty entertaining documentary on the history of nudity in films.
There are a bunch of late Columbia era Woody Allen films, many of which I got in a bundle before but some I had not. Strangely though the Cafe Society listed here isn't the late-era Woody Allen film of that title -- I wonder if that was a mistake.

Snagged a few of the $5 UDHs: Grease 2 (don't come at me) and Antlers. They had many Wes Anderson flicks in HDX.

I got Designated Survivor the complete series for $9.99. I'm a fan of Kiefer and that price seems reasonable to me.

Never finished the 3rd and final season that was made for Netflix, but I know it went more into self contained crisis of the week that season as opposed to serialized in the 1st 2 seasons.

The complete series bundle (9 seasons) of Little House On The Prairie is on sale for $19.99.

Buy & Watch Little House On The Prairie: The Complete Series Deluxe Remastered Edition (Bundle) | Fandango at Home (Vudu)

I used my monthly 10 code to bring it down to 10 bucks. I prefer physical but for the price and not having to deal with all those discs, I am good.

Re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

I bought the complete series of The Waltons last month on a deal with Fandango and watched the first episode of the first season and imagine my surprise when I see it is in widescreen format (16x9).

I did a ton of searching and cannot find any reason for it other than the below. Has anyone read anything on it before. Slightly annoying but I basically got the set for next to nothing so I guess I can't complain. The framing seemed to be fine, though the picture quality of the first episode wasn't the greatest which made me wonder if it was slightly zoomed in on since at times it appeared slightly pixelated.

The only info I could find was this, but it appears to be a canned, generic AI response:

The Waltons appears in a 16:9 aspect ratio on Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu) because the streaming service is providing a remastered or re-encoded version provided by the studio, which has been adapted to fit modern widescreen televisions.

Here are the specific reasons for this, based on typical streaming practices for older shows:
  • Adaptation for Modern Displays: While The Waltons was originally filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio, studios often crop or re-format older content to 16:9 (1.78:1) to eliminate the black bars on the sides of modern televisions.
  • Open Matte/Re-framing: In some cases, if the show was filmed in a wider format (like Super 35) but composed for 4:3, the 16:9 version might show more picture on the sides than the original, or it may be cropped from the top and bottom to fill the screen.
  • Studio-Provided Encodes: Fandango at Home does not create these versions themselves; they sell the files provided to them by the studios.
  • Viewer Preference: Many modern viewers prefer to have their screen filled, leading studios to produce 16:9 versions for streaming platforms.
If you prefer the original, uncropped version, you may need to check if the 4:3 version is available or check other platforms, as sometimes different versions are available elsewhere.

A lot of Warner-owned shows seem to have cropped for widescreen transfers. This is why it was good when Vudu let you check out the first 2 minutes of everything for free.

The More Info tab for individual seasons claims it's SD and Fullscreen. You could request a refund.

Actually, you can try changing the quality to SD and you might get the 4x3 versions that way. I have the UHD copy of Grease redeemed from the disc, but when selecting HDX I instead get the 1998 reissue version.

That's a good idea. I will try that and see what happens.

Damn, those are some great deals. I'm tempted to buy too many of them, so I'm going to have to narrow things down.

A couple of steals:

The Walking Dead complete series for $15

Twin Peaks, season 1 for $1

The complete Black Sails for 10 bucks is a fantastic deal. Such a great show. I wish I could watch it for the first time again! Highly recommended if you haven't seen it!

I had my $10 fan club code I hadn't used for this month yet, so I got it for free. This was perfect timing! It is one of the few shows worth streaming on Starz.

The Walking Dead series is also a great deal for $15. Have they had it that low before? I would rather use my 10-buck code next month or later for it but I am pissed I didn't pull the trigger on the complete series of Shameless a couple of months ago for, I think, 20 bucks. I don't want to miss a one time in forever deal.

I picked up TWD on iTunes for $15 in December with their holiday deal of the day.

I went ahead and grabbed that deal, too. I've never watched it before, but I've heard great things.

There's a Becky/Wrath of Becky 2 pack for $4 that's part of this sale. I picked it up. https://athome.fandango.com/content/...undle-/2339797

I also picked up Moonlighting The Complete Series.

There's a few other shows like Glee, Saved By The Bell, What We Do in The Shadows, A Million Little Things, and Last Man on Earth that I'm interested in, but I'm going to wait until the next sale. I used my last of the 20% off gift cards to buy Moonlighting and The Becky 2 pack.

I'm currently working my way through the original Scrubs series and that's going to take some time. It was only $8 during a sale last year. It's nine seasons and I'm not even finished with season one....

Yeah, I bought ST:TOS (digitally remastered) for $1, and then they offered me season 2 for $3.99 and season 3 for $8.99 so I went ahead and got those, too.

Yeah I wish I knew about the additional discounts before I bought some of these on itunes instead. I wonder how many are cheaper piecemeal like this: I know Avatar the Last Airbender is (but Korra is not)
