Shin Godzilla has a few peculiar quirks because it's aimed solely at Japanese audiences but it's a fine Godzilla flick. Better than Hollywood's recent attempts.

Shin Godzilla is on sale for $3.99, which is only a buck more than the rental price. Though I don't really do blind buys anymore, for years I've heard nothing but good things, so I went for it. Note: there are two different versions and neither are MA.

I conked out half-way through Shin Godzilla last night, but really liked what I saw. At one hour in I think they could probably have cut 15 minutes of talk and still made their comedic point about Japanese bureaucracy, but the effects are fantastic, and so nice to see great, CGI monster destruction in the daylight. Plus, I really like the new (old) take on Godzilla in general.

Among this weekend's $4.99 movies is a Ryan Reynolds gambling movie called Mississippi Grind. I have never seen it but heard on a podcast last week that it was a really great movie. Picked it up as a blind buy.

They said last weekend that there were only two $4.99 winter weekends left. I guess they’re pivoting.
The three-for-$9 has been rotating titles for a few weeks. I bought a set the first week but none since. I’ll check the new batch to see if there’s three I want. |
