Yep. I was just browsing Fandango's email, trying to understand if titles purchased there were accessible on Vudu, when I got to the Vudu deal which had a lot of the same titles.
(side note -"mix and match" - what, I'm going to buy 2 of the same title?)

I just got an email about "3 more hours left" for the sale... but it seems the ended it?

edit: looks like it fixed itself.

All seasons of the Cinemax show Strike Back are on sale for $9.99. I have every season on BD. However, WB decided to release the final season on DVD MOD only, So I went ahead and bought the last season on digital HD. Not ideal at all, but I’m not buying the DVD set.

I bought a bunch of the 3/9.99 titles. Lotsa titles, and some unusual ones like Duck Soup.

And another opportunity for me to pass on Gemini Man, which I rented and liked fine. I passed on the UHD for $5, and now it’s cheaper, but if I were to watch it again, it seems like a waste to watch it in HDX.

Ha, I guess I never really thought about it before, but I guess the meaning came from mixing different items of clothes to “match” them into creating a new outfit.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve bought all the BDs like you, but wasn’t aware of the DVD thing for this season so I just bought the 9.99 digital. For season 6, I kept waiting for the digital to drop from $19 or whatever then finally bought the BD + digital set for $10 last year in a Black Friday or similar sale.

Did you rent it in UHD? I was curious if it was 60fpm streaming or if 60fpm is only available on UHD physical?

If I didn't have it, that is a great price for 4 seasons and a movie.

I bought this also because I wanted S4 and I thought the HDX would be a nice upgrade for my DVDs.
Not so much. The "improvement" isn't as obvious as I had hoped. I was also thinking about "upgrading" The Good Wife but now it seems an unnecessary expense.

Any thoughts/advice on replacing DVD with HDX streaming?

There's a fun "glitch" with the 50% off sale on the title The Informer (starring Joel Kinnaman). It's 19.99 to rent, but it's only $5.99 to buy. ;) Didn't look interesting enough for me to grab (even though I love Kinnaman in most his work), but some of you may have an interest.

They should have made the rental price $99.99 to make it an even better deal :P

I bought Veronica Mars as well. So far I’ve only B5’d it (meaning I watched the first few episodes and then gotten distracted and gone onto something else—twice), but I’m pretty sure I’d like it, and I have two or three seasons on DVD.

Yeah, sometimes TV shows really aren’t shot that well so the HD experience isn’t as much of an improvement. Chuck is the same way. However, I like to get rid of clutter, and I find it easier to track what episodes I’ve watched digitally than physically (where I’ve sometimes resorted to post-its for long-term watches.

I’m also tempted by The Good Wife. I LOVED that show for a number of seasons and forget how many seasons I have on DVD. And I’d rather not subscribe to CBS just to watch it when I’m probably not going to do a fast binge.

For me, I converted a lot of my collection primarily for convenience (and space, etc). HDX is a nice improvement, but I think for me the biggest concern with visual quality (of DVDs and streaming) is the quality of the prints - I can usually be satisfied with SD streaming if the source is good, for example (though I'll take HDX when available, provided it doesn't cost much more).

With some exceptions, older shows probably won't have HDX versions, so you wouldn't be able to upgrade. Either they weren't filmed in HD, weren't designed for widescreen, would need to have lots of work done and wouldn't be worth the expense or the show isn't popular enough. Star Trek and Star Trek TNG was ones where they actually did do the work (a lot of the special effects had to be redone), but it was expensive and it's unlikely to happen on similar shows like DS9 or Babylon 5 (at least, not anytime soon). IIUC, Buffy was redone for HD, but it was poorly done.

re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

Yeah, it's weird - where I don't watch SD DVDS that much anymore, I'll watch the same show on SD streaming. Maybe because that's all there is. I would definitely prefer HD or even UHD but the odds are against it, and some shows are worth rewatching (or watching for the first time) even in SD. Haven't gained space because I haven't gotten rid of many discs/titles, but I prevented the physical collection from growing much more by buying digital. And being able to watch on virtually any device is great.
For movies released in the last 10 years or so, I definitely hold out for a sale on UHD.

Doctor Who has been on sale for like three months.

It really has. I’m working my way through the new series on HBO, but I bought a couple of the Tom Baker arcs early on, and the sale is still there.

Looks like they’re not going to add much sale material till the year-end one is over.
