Possibly? It's fraud.

And remember what fraud and/or piracy gets you, kids...

Oh, I'm sure the folks who would do such a thing would only resort to such methods to save them some time perusing their DVD shelf. Or because their UPCs got smudged. Or some other explanation. Not fraud.

That's how fraud usually occurs. Because they're too lazy to do it the honest way. Yeah...I have like 65% of my UPC's that are smudged...

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Oh, and for the record, I was totally just asking that question above for a friend.

I figure that Vudu had figured out the UPC loophole before the app ever launched and figured the location detection service would appease studio concerns. At least the studios are getting some revenue vs. traditional forms of piracy where they get zilch.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Studios are doing their best to make sure us folks don't get around the system like that. And if they could, they'd want to hold all the rights hostage and force us to subscribe to keep digital rights or something like that. This will be never ending. I guess with physical media, they can easily tell when there's a sale.

funkyryno 03-21-18 02:11 PM

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

So I read Vudu's terms of service, and using a UPC from some other source doesn't violate anything -- as long as you to currently own and have possession of a physical copy of the movie.

Come to think of it, I actually do have a binder full of old DVDs without cases somewhere in storage, but I'm not sure the $5 HD upconversion is really even worth it for most of the titles.

After reading the terms of service, which allows Vudu to terminate your license at its discretion, that does appear to quite true. The studios certainly doesn't want this to be the last time you pay for their content.

You should've done those when they still had the 50% off promotion(s). $2.50 to convert a DVD to HDX is much more reasonable.

Didn't you have to have a blu-ray drive during most of the 50% off promotion? Scanning the barcode is much easier.

Well, if you were just scanning DVDs, a DVD-ROM drive would work fine. Also, I believe Vudu had 50% your first mobile D2D transaction when it first launched, so that would've been an opportune time for those upgrades.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

During the 50% off period I was scanning them with my blu-ray drive. But so many discs were not being recognized. I did not find out about the mobile App until just before the 50% off period ended.
Even though $2 for HDX is still cheap I use it for only movies I really like. Plus I will scan them with the mobile App first. If that works then I will try the blu-ray discs in my blu-ray burner & see it that works. Since I don't think there is a limit of 100 using the dvd burner program, I could be wrong about that though.

anyone have the problem where Vudu D2D doesn't recognize billing address as home address and have remedied so you can scan and get digital?

Is your billing address correct? Where does Google Maps think you are?

I've had the Location check in the Vudu Mobile app fail before, but typically just letting it try again fixes it.

There's also a way to set your location using the "Mock Locations" developer feature in Android, but I don't know if that works with the Vudu app:

Easy to miss this one, but with the TV Season Sale going on right now you can get the (almost) Complete X-Files series (Season 1-10) for $49.99. I am VERY tempted to pull the trigger on that.

Scooped up that x-files deal. Great price!

I went ahead and picked it up as well. Also makes it a little better having the T-Mobile credit to lower the cost a little.

I picked up two Peanuts movies (Race for Your Life and Bob Voyage) in the $10 mix-and-match. They’re also a $15 bundle. :)

If I were a Little House on the Prairie fan, I’d be tempted by the $19.99 nine-season deal. :)

That is a good price. But after buying the original DVD sets when we all thought $99 for an entire season was a good deal, and then the Complete Set, and then the BDs for like $7 a season, I’m done spending money of X-Files.

Man that is tempting for little house. 200 HD eps for $20

Likewise and I was one of those saying that I would not spend money on that series after the BD's, and they pulled me back in.

So is there an updated list of UV compatible movies? I would like to prioritize these for purchases as I at least can still share these movies w family and friends.

There never has been, other than people on various forums who try and keep a manual spreadsheet up to date. And now with UV on its way out, it'll be tracked less and less. Just check on Vudu or whatever service you use and look for the UV icon. That's about the only way to do it now.

Grabbed the two Peanut ones as well (I remember watching Bon Voyage several times as a kid). I've been in a Peanuts mode, found 2 of the 4k's w/slip at a used movie place for $8 a piece (just need Xmas now)...so might as well grab these as well.

I also grabbed Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie & Daffy Duck Movie: Fantastic Island for the Easter $10 mix and match as well. I don't remember any of those 4 being on sale anytime recently. Trying to get my toddler slowly into them, he likes Tiny Toons a lot, so maybe I can get him into some of these. (Even so daddy likes them just fine)
