MOHO indoor paper thin HDTV receiver $24.50

http://www.gomohu.com/the-leaf-indoor-hdtv-antenna/

One of the most popular antennas, not saying its the cheapest or the best, as I really have no clue, but this is the lowest price it has been, about $15-20 below normal

Mohu Paper Thin Leaf Indoor HDTV Antenna for $34.99 - 30% with promo code MOHULEAF30 = $24.49. Shipping is free.

Thanks, I ordered one. The reviews on Amazon are really good - 4.5 out of 5 stars, with over 1,000 reviews.

This would be for the kitchen TV on which I am currently using rabbit ears - I am sure the leaf will do better. For my main TV I use a roof-mounted UHF antenna from Radio Shack but I keep it out of the way behind my couch. $75 and works great.

I have the Leaf and it works great. I got it a few months ago for my grandiose plan to cut the cord. I cancelled my cable, but Comcast still has yet to shut it off (and I haven't been billed), so I'm just riding the gravy train until it ends. But I do use the Leaf for when I want to watch network shows in HD.

Not as good of a deal, but 10% off when ordering directly from Mohu with the code "killcablewithleaf". (It worked for me when I ordered a few months ago.)

I found it on this site back when I was researching antennae: http://www.killthecablebill.com/

I am surrounded by hills and can't get a single DTV channel to come in using rabbit ears. I wonder if this would work or if I have to go with a rooftop antenna. Any thoughts?

This is what I have behind my couch, an outdoor UHF antenna:

Or put it on your roof of course. This is a great antenna, the advantage of the leaf is that it is small but can still pull in some stations - I ordered it for my kitchen TV.

By the way, I still haven't received the leaf.

Re: MOHO indoor paper thin HDTV receiver $24.50

All right, I finally got it in the mail and have been playing around with it. It is not a miracle worker, you can get a better signal with rabbit ears if you play around with the angle of the rabbit ears. And I don't like that it came with a white cord instead of a black cord, the white cord sticks out like a sore thumb against a black TV.

Does it pull in strong signals? Sure. Does it pull in weak signals? Sort of, but you need to play with the angle, just like you would with rabbit ears. Is it worth $25? I think that $12 or $15 would be a fairer price, but $25 is not an outrageous price for it.

Buy this antenna if you have nearby stations you want - do not buy this antenna thinking that you will be pulling in stuff you can't already get with rabbit ears.

I would give it 3 out of 5 stars if I were rating it on Amazon.

Pros: Thin, can be hidden behind a picture or behind the TV.
Cons: Not any better than rabbit ears, comes with a white cord, too expensive for what it is.

My $2.99 rabbit ears antenna picks up all the channels here. Works for me.

I just got an email from Mohu and they're having a storewide 25% off sale until 1/1/14 with code MohuHoliday. Just FYI for anyone interested.

Re: MOHO indoor paper thin HDTV receiver $24.50

my anecdotal experience using it in the Westchester NY area:

it does not pull in 11, 13 or 21. ch 7 is spotty and ch 2 goes in and out and i have to take it off wall and put it somewhere else. you can get nyc gov channels like cuny and 22. have no other antenna to compare it to.

when i cut the cord i was expecting no issues getting regular poor people channels.

I think the marketing oversells the quality of these indoor antennas. With the air filled now with so many competing channels and cross-noise, it's impossible pulling every possible channel with an indoor antenna in the bigger urban areas.

Now all I have to do is find an OTA DVR that doesn't require a monthly subscription the way TiVo does. I'm considering a SimpleTV, but the mixed reviews worry me.

You might take a look at this thing: http://www.channelmasterstore.com/DV...tm?Click=32508

I have an older version & it's basically a digital VCR. It does have name based recordings, but you can't do season passes & stuff like that. Plus on mine, it's difficult to set up a recording more than a few hours in advance because the guide data doesn't go out very far.

It indicates I'd get 4 channels with this one. 30 channels with an upgrade to the ultimate antenna which is $65. Checked camelcamelcamel and that one was briefly $58 and change last week. May wait to see if it drops in price again.

Thanks! That might be exactly what I'm looking for. It doesn't stream to a Roku like the SimpleTV products, but the HDMI connection would be better anyway. And the Channel Master gets better reviews.

I'll probably order one of these in the next couple of weeks.
