Which Streaming Services Do You Use?

I presume most people here have Netflix or Hulu, but other than those, what do you subscribe to?

For me:

TWIT Network -- the main reason I got a Roku was so I could watch TWIT while still using my laptop.
Crunchyroll -- Finally, I can watch recent anime legally.
Dramafever -- East Asian TV series.
Crackle -- Doesn't have the selection of Netflix, true, but I actually think that makes it more fun. It's sorta like the steaming equivalent of channel surfing -- you just browse around until you stumble across something really weird or that you vaguely remember seeing once when you were six.

Glad to see this sub-forum created......Vudu for me....no subscritption fee (pay for what you rent...credit card needed on file though), new releases come out same day as the DVD, and they have the more obscure titles available for rent as well - win-win.

Also, this is the company that was recently bought out by Walmart.

The prices are a little high for a flick ($2.99 up to $3.99 for max HD) but I don't care...I don't rent that much anymore so it's a good service for me - watched three movies so far and haven't been disconnected once. You can also access the vudu app across all the video game systems, supported blu-ray players, etc...

Just Netflix, for the most part. I'll occasionally use some of the other channels on the Roku, typically the Nowhereman TV channel. Once in a while I'll use Pandora. If Spotify ever shows up on the Roku, which was hinted at a while back, I would probably use it quite a bit.

Netflix and Pandora. I have Amazon Prime, but they don't have an app for my WD TV Live.

Re: Which Streaming Services Do You Use?

Netflix (Kindle Fire, PS3, Roku, HTPC) - for casual movies and TV shows.
Amazon Instant Video (Roku, HTPC) - for actual rentals. I'm always checking in to see which movies are $1.99, or which new shows have the pilot for free (ie: Touch and Awake).
Spotify (Android Phone, Laptop, HTPC, wife's iPhone) - for 99% of my music needs.
Pandora (Roku) - Only when I'm not in the mood to pick something specific to listen to.

Re: Which Streaming Services Do You Use?

I have paid subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crunchyroll and The Anime Network. I also have a current subscription to the TNA Wrestling channel, but I don't plan on renewing.

I'll often sign-up to Hulu+ for a month if there's something I want to watch. But I don't like all the commercials, especially when I'm paying for it.

For the free channels, I frequently watch Youtube and listen to iTunes Podcasts. Sometimes I'll surf the other channels like Revision3, Twit.tv, Machinima, etc. But I don't watch them on a regular basis.

Great thread.

If possible, list the device or devices where you watch the service.

Re: Which Streaming Services Do You Use?

I use Hulu+ and Rhapsody regularly. I actually paid for Napster just for use on my phone, but now that it switched over to Rhapsody, I hate it. Namely the Rhapsody app for iOS, just sucks ass, always laggy and freezing up, never had that issue with Napster. I do like Hulu+ quite a bit, even with the commericals. Shit, there are commercials everywhere, especially on Cable and I pay for that shit too.

I also have Netflix but eh, I have enough movies and TV Shows, I just had the itch to watch a few shows I know they had on there.

Netflix and CinemaNow. Netflix for all of my streaming and CinemaNow for rentals.

I've tried Crackle, but the commercials were annoying and the selection was shit.

What are you guys watching on Dramafever? I checked it out a few times, but I'm not very familiar with the shows. Is there anything that's really good?

Here's the website if anyone else is interested:

It's pretty much Korean television dramas and other programming like travel and food shows. There are a few Chinese dramas as well. All of them have subtitles.

However, Dramafever just raised the prices recently for new subscribers. I'm currently paying $39.99 per year (My Mother uses it since she's a fan of them) and they promised to keep it that price everytime I need to renew. I signed up before the price increase. If your a new subscriber, it's $100 per year.

I mainly just go for the historical dramas. They aren't Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Seven Samurai, but they're still pretty good.

I'm not even bothering with the subscription -- the ads for free users are minimal, and there aren't any series that I can't wait to watch when they become available to free users.

When it comes to monthly(or when it comes to amazon yearly) subscriptions, Netflix is a must, and finally became an amazon prime member when we got the Roku for the bedroom. Had to do something since on the weekends I couldn't watch netflix till 11 since they have that stupid 2 device rule and my daughters bogart it till lights out. It doesn't have the content netflix does but it did help me rediscover Red vs. Blue. We're also trying out Hulu plus for a few months because I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me cancel our cable service and I thought it would help.If i'm actually paying to rent something I prefer Vudu over other ppv sites, I got "Dressed to kill" on amazon since the roku doesn't offer Vudu and it was full frame and looked like crap so I bit bullet and went in the other room and paid for the HD version on vudu.

I found a site called Prescreen.com, its a rental service promoting independent films. It looks they have daily deals and promotions. If you like independant films this might be a site for you, I have one movie in my que so far, anxious to see if it is any good.

Netflix, Spotify. I'm debating Hulu Plus, and I think it will be a great replacement to paying for cable TV.

Does anyone know if there's an option to pay for BBC's iPlayer or other European content or Latin American content? (I think Hulu has Mexican content now)

To be able to get ZDF, RTL, DW-TV, etc. would be a delight.

BBC iPlayer was scheduled for a late-2011 release in the USA. It's going to be a monthly subscription service. But I haven't heard anything in a few months. I think it's already available on the UK Rokus. So hopefully, if the US release happens, we'll get it on the US Roku.

Netflix, Hulu+, and Pandora are the main ones, although we watch Crackle (mainly for Seinfeld, since the commercials don't seem so out of place) and Crunchyroll on occasion. I keep meaning to rent something from Amazon to test out their streaming quality, but still haven't. All of this is on a Roku, but I also use Pandora on the iPhone in the car sometimes.

I don't think I will ever attempt to watch a movie on Crackle again.

I'm using Crunchyroll for one reason: it's the only place to see a lot of new Japanese anime shows (yes, there's FUNimation's anime streaming service, but its interface is not as good).

 Love Crunchyroll.

If you have an iPad/iPhone and Airplay-compatible device (AppleTV, Boxee, etc), check out The Anime Network. I use the iPad app to stream shows to my AppleTV. Works really well.

Just got a Roku 2 XD in the mail yesterday, so I'm still adding channels to it. So far I've got Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon, Crackle, and a few horror/drive-in/kung-fu channels. I'm still looking for more to add.

From what I've seen of iPlayer (I subscribe to a VPN that lets me pick from a lot of servers globally), it's really friendly and easy to use. I especially like the option to download the video, which should be an option with Netflix or Hulu(+), like it is with Spotify (paid).

My internet connection is spotty enough that I'd prefer to let something download overnight and watch it the next day than have to sit through a bunch of forced breaks while I wait for the stream to reappear or my connection to come back.

Download the Crackle app from the XBOX App Marketplace for FREE.

I'm currently doing Netflix streaming and Hulu Plus. I like being able to catch up on the latest seasons of shows on Hulu+, but I probably won't keep it after I'm caught up. I hate having to watch commercials when I'm paying a monthly fee.

I'm using it to get caught up on the latest seasons of Raising Hope and Modern Family. That seems to be its greatest value right now (to me): the fact that it's the only place you can legally get the latest seasons of a lot of shows. Otherwise I don't really have a use for it once I'm caught up with these.

Dan 06-20-12 12:17 PM

Re: Which Streaming Services Do You Use?

I tested out Hulu Plus, but it was right after all the current seasons came to an end, so I didn't really have anything specific I needed to catch up on. Therefore, it didn't have much value to me. That said, I can definitely see the potential. If they raised the price a few dollars and cut the ads completely, I'd subscribe.
