Or how about a bunch of "Dvd-talkers" who file a class action. Wonder who would win? Could we sue for...Dvds? Now that's a sign of addiction, when everything comes in terms of dvd value. Too late for me.

in addition to the $10 coupon, you can also get points at memolink.com, which would be enough (14/$ spent) for 1.5 $10 gc to many stores per dvd bought, so it's like getting $25 off + the dvd + (maybe) the refund. makes it a little easier to stomach.

These guys are ok, but I would not put up the cash I am not willing to really lose or have to put up a lot of time. It just becomes a pain in the rear for you later on.

Not that I plan on ordering from them... but just a thought. If you are going to order from them, you might as well use one of those cash back or points card. For example, I get 5% cash back twords a GM Vehicle on my GM Card. *IF* everything goes threw (i.e. you get your rebate), you've paid nothing for your stuff, and you've gotten $50 (since 3 DVDs are $1,000!!!!) or so twords the purchase of a new car ($50 for paying $0 is good!!!!).

Just a thought for the people that are ordering allready.

Not a deal that should be encouraged and as this thread has turned into more of a discussion of the validity of their practices and complaints about them I will move this to the Store forum.

CyberRebate.com, Inc., an on-line retailer headquartered in Long Island, NY, filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 in the Eastern District of New York at 10 a.m. today.

As of the filing time, CyberRebate.com suspended operations on its Web site.

Questions regarding customers, vendors and others affected by today's action will be resolved as the bankruptcy process proceeds.

Sadly, most employees were released this morning. A small staff will remain to take the company through bankruptcy.

More information will be available once the bankruptcy process gets underway.

Customers will be contacted regarding their rights and remedies.

Check out this bit from that page:

Sung of Hillsboro, OR, writes (5/16/01):
I spent over $12,000 on items on Cyberrebate.com starting mid FEB. with 100% refund guaranteed. Now the store claimed bankrupcy, and there is no way to contact them. I have not gotten a penny from them yet. What shall I do?

I am so stressed out because I planned to use the refund check as my downpayment for purchasing a house in three months. I have a credit bill keep coming, I will have to pay the interest and finance charges on it because I do not have enough money in my account.
Wow.

I really do feel sorry for the people that got screwed by cyberrebate. However, I saw this coming from a mile away. It is kinda ironic how about 2 months ago, people were saying this would never happen. I hope everyone gets their money back, but it doesn't look good.

Check out this link if you want to see what some people lost:

Check out this link

$12,000 is a lot, but there were higher losses...

And no, I never used them, looked to risky to me.

I can't believe how many people bought into the scam...and the amounts that people are listing as having lost on that site are outrageous! 10,000, 20,000+...it's hard to imagine that these figures are all true, but there's got to be alot of them that are, and that's scary.

I expect more major news sources will pick up on this story soon as well. It's really crazy that people could get into this thing into the tens of thousands of dollars... all for some free stuff.

MSNBC already has:

haha...

What I meant to say was: Stay far away from these guys - they will rip you off...

I never meant for it to sound like I thought their service was valid or legal or legit - I always felt it was a rip-off scam of some sort, but I figured they were making a fortune off not-so-bright people who would pay 170 bucks for a DVD and then expect a complete refund 3 months later. I never got anything from them. I'm no fool... I would still be right had they just kept on paying out those rebates - I thought they would be around forever... seems like they have already. Anyway - that's funny... wish I could say it was sarcasm instead of irony.

Some of the replies in the listed thread make my >$1000+ expense for car repairs - I was in an auto accident this week - pale in comparison.

The Taxman is not your friend

The one item that was mentioned briefly in one of these threads but not since is the subject of taxes. In the state where I live, when you buy something over the internet you are legally suppose to claim it and pay taxes. There are a lot of states like that but the states don't enforce it much because of the difficutly in tracking people down. Now, with a list of names and addressess, they can go to these people, if the choose to, and say - pay us the taxes on this $30,000 worth of merchandise you bought but did not claim or pay state sales taxes to us for. Wouldn't that just be the kicker for all of these people to owe another $2100 or merchandise that wasn't even worth the tax liability on it! Just thought I would add my $0.02 to the conversation.
