I complained to Netflix about their progressively worse turn around time when shipping out DVDs. I've found that DVDs are staying in the "released to ship" status for 3+ days. I'm labelling their response as "BS" since I've found that DVDs stay in the "released to ship" mode for 3+ days even if Netflix says that the disk is "in stock" when I rent it. In other words, their excuse that the delay is due to checking in and registering of returned DVDs doesn't fly. Label me one increasingly dissatisfied Netflix user. My guess as to the delays? I bet they've laid off people and that's what's causing the delays.

Here's their BS response:

Thanks for your inquiry.
"Released to ship" means that the DVD of your choice is arriving or has
arrived in the warehouse. A DVD then needs to be registered (manually)
as "returned". it will be examined for faults and problems. Once it is
cleared for examination it is then shipped to the next NetFlix subscriber.
I apologize for the slow turn around and registering returned DVDs. A
DVD then needs to be registered (manually) as "returned". It will be
examined for faults and problems. Once it has cleared examination it is
then shipped to the next NetFlix subscriber. Apparently, we are also
experiencing problems with backed up mail due to the holiday season.

Yup, right now that's the only reason I'm sticking with them too. They *are* trying my patience though.

Blockbuster or someone else huge will end up buying them soon enough.

I live in NY, so turn around for me is slow. But I've never had a title sit in 'release to ship' for days, it usually takes a couple of hours before it ships. It seems to me Netflix keeps titles on 'release to ship' longer for those living on West coast with faster turn arounds.

I used to use Netflix, but I canceled my account after really slow turnarounds. I live in California and for mail to get to me from where there at, usually takes 1 day. The turnaround for my orders from me mailing it back to a new order to arive usually was 4-7 days. I came to the conclusion that since I lived so close, I can view alot more titles than say someone who lives in NY. Simply because I can get them back in the mail the next day and it would arrive there the next day. Then when I would rent them there here the next day. So you figure if I can get them back and forth so fast, they spend more money in shipping. You figure if a view 5 dvd's a week, that's 20 a month. You take the 20 a month times 66 cents round trip equals $13.20 and me paying 19.95 a month, means they are making $6.75. They aren't making crap off me! But if they can slow that turnaround down just a couple of days, they can cut down on my rentals and save on those round trip shipping costs. Well that's what I figure is the case, but that's only a guess(I think a very accurate guess)

I have been a Netflix customer for over 2 years and am also becoming increasingly disappointed with them. Not only have I too also experienced the "ready to ship" status for 2-3 days, seen the mailing time go from an average of 3 days to 5-6 days but ever since they went to the keep the disc as long as you want, most DVD's I want are "Out Of Stock" for months on end. Add to this that their monthly price has increased by 50 % plus the adding of tax since I joined and it's getting frustrating. The ONLY reason I haven't quit yet is because of the vast number of titles they carry and because they are still much cheaper than my local BlockBuster. Although BlockBuster's new 30 DVD's in 30 days for $19.95 sounds pretty good. Too bad they don't have 30 DVD's I'd want to rent that I haven't already seen or bought.

This "released to ship" baloney has bugged me since they started it. Funny thing, though, I had 2 under "released to ship" for 3 days and today in the shipping status it shows they shipped on Wednesday.? Whatever. I'm a little frustrated with the slowdown too, but it's still a good deal - eventually you'll get the ones you want.

so I'm not the only one! thank god. I'm so freakin pissed off that these guys. all 4 of my selections were "released to ship" for 3 days. when I complained that they should mark this "out of stock" like 90% of my other selections, they fire back with some generic bull$#@! I wonder how long they'll last. I don't think they're making much money. I'm only holding on because I still get 4 rather than the 3...too bad it's not 15 bucks any longer...

that's a very interesting observation. i live in socal and my turn around time is very fast (don't laugh, but sometimes I just put on tape...esp hk and foreign flicks with subpar quality and zero extras). any other ppl living in the east coast who get "released to ship" status for days, or is it just us west coast (CA) people?
