Re: most common dvd found in charity shops
Been quite a while since I've been in a Goodwill or similar place to check out the media section. I can't remember which DVDs were most common, but back in the day it seemed like copies of Titanic (the double-VHS) were everywhere.

I hardly ever see Potter DVDs at those shops. But the Blu-Rays on the other hand (Especially the Deathly Hollows movies)
I've said elsewhere that the most common DVD I see everywhere is any title that has Liam Neeson aiming a handgun at someone on the cover.

No idea about charity/thrift shops but this thread reminded me of the local trade is stores here right after the series finales of Lost, Battlestar Galactica and Game Of Thrones. The stores had signs stating that they would not buy/trade for these shows. I guess after the crap finales they had a bunch of customers trying to offload their discs.

Seasons of Entourage, like all the time. What was that show even about?
But I was actually recently thinking of posting something about this topic, mainly because I never really find anything I like at thrift stores that much and I was wondering if there was a movie/show on DVD that's always at these places that I should give a try? I like scifi and vintage horror but the stuff I see like that is usually the shovel ware movies or public domain discs that look like an old VHS.
Is there anything people usually see that I might like?

I don't go nearly as often as I did in my hay day but I'd nominate Phantom Menace as the most commonly found dvd.

I never go into places like Goodwill, but the used book/music stores I go to usually have a large selection of b-movies or mostly forgotten mainstream films like Dante's Peak or City of Angels.
Maybe the desirable stuff that comes in gets picked over quickly.

The titles I always come across in thrift stores are:
Ocean's Eleven series
Stars Wars Episodes 1-3
Pirates of the Caribbean series
Twilight series
Hunger Games series
X-Men series
Transformers series
Lord of the Rings series
Harry Potter series
Spiderman series
As for Blu-ray, hands-down; The Dark Knight and X-Men series. I imagine a lot of those Mill Creek titles which were blown-out at the Dollar Tree around 2012.
I guess these were the "must own" titles in the earlier stages of each format which now represent the most unwanted titles.
Surprisingly I see very few or no 4K titles in the mix even after 9 years.
