Over the last two or three days whenever I go on to buy.com another browser window opens that seems to have an address of https://www.buy.us.com/BIZRATE/ and then something else depending on where I am on the site. I say "mystery window" because I can't open it and see what is going on in the window. The window is on the task bar and the only way I know the address is to hover the cursor over it. I'm using IE 5.5 on Windows ME.
Does anyone know what this is? It almost seems like a tracking device of some kind, but the only time before this I've seen anything to do with BizRate is when I've completed an order on buy.com and get the receipt page.

Sounds like the window is coming up in error....this is just a survey company which as you stated....surveys customers upon the completion of an order!!!
Maybe they are watching you!!!

My Windows ME crashed my hard drive. Cost $150 to fix and I ended up asking that Windows 98 be reinstalled without ME. My system is custom built and they blame the whole thing on ME. No hardware problem at all.
Do you think you may have an ME gremlin?

Do you see what a can of worms this portal is? I don't think I can go on living my life as I have lived it.

huh?? that makes no sense. Bugs in your OS CANNOT destroy a hard drive .. that's just silly. It was just a coincidence that your hard drive crashed while WinME was installed on it

Hey SMB-IL,
The same thing happened to me yesterday when I placed an order at buy.com. I am using netscape (forget what version, I think the latest) and Windows 98. I just clicked out of it since I had no idea what it was.

I don't think so Hal. Believe it or not, Windows ME is the very first MSOS that I've had ZERO trouble with and I've had it installed since mid-September. Considering Microsoft's track record, this is AMAZING to me!
Big Dave - At least this is happening to someone else too. One thing I didn't mention is that when I leave buy.com, the 2nd window disappears automatically. This window I'm talking about isn't the one you get after you make a purchase; it's an "invisible" window that shows up only on the taskbar.
Not too paranoid about it, just wondering. Maybe I'll write buy about it.
Thanks, guys!
