Only because they have the sales figures to dictate they can make the decision (same with Apple; they buy on consignment for their store supply of 3rd party items). No one is going to give Fry's product on consignment when there's doubt the stock will ever sell of that Fry's will ever pay for it.

If you have no interest in the emails, why not unsubscribe? You even hoard email.
Uh, I DO have interest in them if they actually have stuff on sale. At this point unsubscribing would just be pouring salt in their wounds.

Speculation was they'd be fully stocked again for Black Friday, but we'll see how that ends up. If the store is still empty, I want to go in and sing this:

So, did anyone bother going to Fry's today? Did they get any new product in at all?

Well, here's the answer to that question:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XIc27424ebg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Much happier times:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GQHcrbM5feM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Fry's is still saying they'll eventually get more stock in, but I figured if they couldn't get any in by Black Friday then there's just no hope. They were my favorite store and this situation would be hilarious if it were anyone else. At this rate even if they don't close they literally won't have anything left to sell.

re: Fry's Electronics was dying, and now it’s DEAD

I just received an email today with their "Deals of the day". Here is the link:
https://www.frys.com/email/191202_46...omocode/684370
Some are in-store and online but a few are in-store only. I wonder how many stores actually have the items as most are pretty $$$ items.

I didn't even bother opening the email I got from them today but remember the subject was "Software Downloads Sale!" Guess they can't run out of downloads- or can they?

Read one comment from someone saying they ordered a game system online from them on Thanksgiving and it was immediately cancelled. Wondering if any employees have broken down and shouted "We can't go on like this!"

I visited the Downer's Grove store yesterday and the media section is like a ghost town. The only thing of note was a bunch of those boutique horror bluray titles, but all still at full price. The CD section was probably smaller than my collection at home and the video game section was pathetic.
A lot of their shelves are filled with doodads and gadgets and "as seen on TV" products. Not sure how they're still afloat.

So sad. Every once in a while I get an urge to pop in but just seems too depressing now.

I see the YouTube embedding either isn't working or has changed again. Too tired to try and fix my earlier post- but the spiel has been that "We're changing distributors and moving to a consignment model, and will get new merchandise in soon"- but they've been saying that since July and are still saying it now. The media sections are empty because they haven't gotten any new stock in forever, but the good part of that is they actually sold what they did have.

Yeah, just bring up all Fry's locations on Yelp, and read all the reviews from the past couple months... ALL of them, 1-star reviews, saying how the shelves are empty, with only a handful of employees around, and that it's basically a zombie store.
They must have their lease on the land/building paid up - I see no other reason that they're open.

That could be the case. If they own their real estate, they're probably doing good. My local Fry's just added a Burger King and gas station to their unused oversized parking lot.

Funny how business positioning can work in your favor like that.

I'm still not sure how Best Buy figured out how to stay in business.

I know, right? They just reported a strong holiday quarter too.

Good on them for figuring it out.

I hardly go into Best Buy anymore- I'd miss them a lot less than Fry's.

No Fry's near me but the closest Best Buy always seems to have pretty much a full parking lot.

I thought it was selling/pivoting to appliances plus ramping up Geek Squad services. It's also that they made their stores more welcoming, something that Frys certainly never put as a priority:

re: Fry's Electronics was dying, and now it’s DEAD

I need an HDMI cable right now, and for a quick second I thought about hitting Fry's for one until I remembered the state of their store.

Unfortunately, the $3 HDMI cable I would've gotten from Fry's will now have to be a $15 cable from Best Buy - I'd do amazon, but don't have the time to wait.

HDMI cables: 99 cents at the 99 cent store. I'm sure you have one within 3 miles of where you live.

Needed some really LONG HDMI cables and Fry's was the only place that had them locally and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Don't know what I'll do now if I need any more.

Get them from Amazon for far cheaper than any retailer like the rest of us?

If you don't want to try Amazon, eBay, or Monoprice, try your local Electronics shop. Mine has tons of A/V cables for decent prices, compared to overpriced stuff at Best Buy.

What "local Electronics shop"? That's what Fry's WAS! And I needed those cables RIGHT AWAY, I wasn't going to wait for them!
