Netflix Lite.

Not really a "bargain" but I thought its worth mentioning, considering I've never heard of it til today.
I decided to cancel my account today because I thought 20-some-odd dollars was too much for me to spend each month, especially when I've been renting less lately.
In the process of canceling my membership I was offered to stay using Netflix Lite, which is $12 a month with unlimited rentals, but you can only keep 2 at a time.
Well, this is cool, because if I can manage to rent just 4 a month then its only $3/rental and 6 would be $2/rental. Not bad
Sorry if I wasted your time, but I found this very helpful.

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
They can barely keep movies in my living room with 4 rotating tiltes. I'd expect to receive no more than 5 movies a month on this program. Anyone using the Lite?

I averaged 2 a week with Netflix Lite here in California... By the way, it will be 12.82 each month (with tax). I just recently canceled, something I didn't expect to do, but when they claim that they'll ship your next movie out within 4 hours and then it sits there for 3 days(a few times)... I just gave up on them. Maybe when they IPO they'll have the funds to hold up their end of the membership agreement. I might go back then.

Just to help any newbies reading this, I wanted to point out that you can only sign up for the Netflix Lite program by cancelling your regular Netflix ($20/month) account.
Has anybody ever tried signing up for Netflix (maybe through a one-month-free offer), and then cancelling within the month and signing up for Netflix Lite? I'm wondering how long someone has to be a member of Netflix's regular program before they can cancel and get the Netflix Lite offer.
As someone who would not consider the $20/month program, but would the $12/month program, I wish Netflix would just make the Netflix Lite program available to everyone.

Is Netflix lite offered if you try to cancel online, or was this over the phone?
Sounds promising considering I only have 2 out at once anyway.

Supposedly it will offer you Netflix Lite if you try to cancel online at the Web Site.
That would still make it cheaper per DVD rental than any other source.
My problem is that at a certain point, I'm going to run out of DVDs to watch (since only a fraction of films are available on DVD).
And, during the months that have soccer, skiing, and TV sweeps, I might be hard pressed to watch even 1 a week.
Hmmm... maybe those two concerns will balance out.

Just switched!
If you go to the Your Account link at the bottom of the NetFlix page, then log in, select Cancel/Change Account...
There you can choose NetFlix Lite.
No risk of cancelling if you really don't want to. And, it starts at the beginning of your next billing period, so you'll even have time to change your mind.

I did while trying to cancel online. It offers you the choice when you attempt to cancel.
for me its a pretty good deal. I don't really need 4 at a time, and I can still rent an unlimited amount per month.
Netflix has been pretty good to me. They seem to have a better stock now too -- seeing that I don't see "out of stock" as much as I used to.
