I noticed 800.com started offering only 2-day air shipping to Hawaii, which costs absurdly a lot! Anyone have any clue as to why they've done this, and why companies can't send things via USPS?! Hawaii IS part of the United States!

I sure would like to know the answer for this one. 800.com used to do this in the old days too. The 3 for $1 deal was 3 for 12 to Hawaii. Still good deal. I don't know why 800.com and Buy.com don't use USPS to Hawaii. Does Buy ship anything USPS? They seem to support UPS but I thought I saw something on their site about USPS.

Yea, I know how you guys feel. We in Alaska have the same problem. I quit ordering from buy.com unless they have a coupon or free shipping. Now it looks like I will have to treat 800.com the same way. 8 bucks for shipping a single DVD? Get real! (reel)
I refuse to support those union bas***s at UPS.

About buy.com, the thing is, I KNOW they can ship USPS. When our Reel.com orders transferred over to Buy.com, every one of my preorders came in from Buy.com via USPS. They also don't mention anything(I believe) about not being able to send USPS to Hawaii on their shipping page, and only tell you that you have to select 2 day UPS(Ripoff, especially for preorders, which they send to you late if you go 2 day air), when you are checking out. Companies who ship USPS to everywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii, are messed up. They may think Hawaii is a small market, and that they can ignore Hawaii, but in actuality, a lot of the stores that came here from the mainland are the top stores(saleswise) in the U.S.

Buy has always been a nightmare to Hawaii. The 800.com must be brand new. I received three DVDs from them this past week (thanks, Pizza Hut!) and all of them were sent USPS Express mail, just like always. Perhaps there is some mistake. Give them a call, the CS reps are very nice. If all else fails, remember, you can use brands for less and get your shipping charges back on orders greater than $25.

Hey, I just checked their site, the mistake seems to be yours. Here's what the listing says under Movies, Music & Games to Alaska & Hawaii:
See chart above for United States shipping on Movies, Music and Games
So it's the same price as everywhere else, and it's sent via USPS.
I used to live in Hawaii, and know how bad some of the online shipping charges are. You're still safe with this one.

I've been ordering from 800.com for quite a while now and they always have USPS as a shipping option. I just checked my pre-orders that were placed few week ago and was charged $1.95 for USPS shipment.

I read the exact policy on their site. However, the [\B]real[\B] story comes when you actually try to check out. They only allow you to check out choosing 2-day air shipping! This is very inflated, at $8 or so per item. Perhaps someone from 800.com (we know you read our posts!) could kindly explain their stance on this.

I sympathize with you
I ordered my DVD player from 800.com using a $20 off coupon. The shipping via UPS was just about $20.
Still got it cheaper than at Circuit City.
Still, buy.com recently lowered their prices on 2-day shipping, which is practically the only way they ship to Hawaii(via UPS). It went from $9.95 a DVD to $4.95 per.
I just wish Best Buy would open up a store here......

That's the reason why I stop buying from buy.com. They charge $4.95 for handling + $1.95 per item. And if 800.com is going to do the same thing, I will stop buying from them too.
And if buy.com have free shipping promo, we don't qualify because the free is for ground shipping only!

It is about time they open up a Best Buy here. I have a "bunch" of $15 Best Buy Gift Cards.
