<a href="http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=1921220&siteid=31821802&bfpage=logos">800.com</a> has redesigned their site and logo...

I don't think it's an improvement, what do you think?

Sparrow 10-07-00 02:10 PM

This is my first time visiting this site and so far I like it (mainly because I have a new coupon in my cart http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif ).

Since I had not visited it previously, I can't compare it with the old site.

What I do like about it is the nice selection of electronics! I am in the market for a RePlay TV and may have to see what that rebate is about.

Thanks for pointing out this site!

cloud 10-07-00 02:37 PM

I preferred the old design. The new design is suckekekekekeke as some here would say. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I liked the colors of the old 800.com better but I did like that 10.00 off coupon I was given and used it. I think with use of blue it looks like Buy.com's site now. I wonder if they paid someone alot of money for advice to use BLUE. Hey, I just noticed DvdTalk uses alot of BLUE? The 800.com order status is down. I really dont like that though.

Jason Reynolds 10-07-00 10:52 PM

I don't like the new design either. That bad smiley face has got to go.

Plus I can't check my order status. I tried this morning and got a "we're updating. Try in 1-2 hours." and just got the same thing.

I like the redesign, but the order status thing is getting a little annoying. It's been saying "check back in 1-2 hours" for several days now (although it was working for a short time in the middle).

namja 10-08-00 07:29 AM

I like the blue.
Don't like the smiley/outlet.
"We're updating right now..." is damn annoying.
I think the fonts are too small.
It seems to be more functional, though.

I wanna be the highly paid consultant who says: "copy this other site". The search function was broken earlier as well as order status checking. Not a good way to get the redesign of to a flying start...

Site looks like hell (no contrast, hard on the eyes), has a rough feel to it, and can't remember that I'm a good customer (that part isn't all bad, as I got to use the coupon).

Heinrich

shaun3000 10-08-00 10:16 PM

It looks cheaper. Almost non-professional.

JawsAddict 10-09-00 03:14 AM

I don't like it. It looks a lot less professional than the old site. The typefaces and graphics are amateurish.

billm 10-09-00 08:18 AM

Order Status function is still screwed up!
I never did like 800.com..this is anohter reason to continue not liking htem. I took advantage of a coupon and ordered Jurassic Park..now I cant check status on it..The lure of the coupon got me ordering from this shithole again..big mistake

patrckpiteo 10-09-00 11:48 AM

Is that the picture of a happy buyer or an electrical outlet?

Mr.Speed 10-09-00 12:52 PM

You all have to expect some issues on a brand new site. Overall I think they have done a great job with their site. More search options, an awesome compare section, and sheer selection. As for not looking professional that is ridiculous. I have bought many items from them and I pre-ordered a DVD from the new site and I thought the checkout process was smooth. I would say give it a chance and let them fine-tune everything. Just remember in a dynamic world you must remain dynamic and I think that is what they are doing. Changing to meet the needs of the consumer to make things simpler. You can’t knock em for that. Anyway that is just how I feel. Give it a chance, and as for me I will continue to buy from 800.com.

jimbo 10-09-00 02:50 PM

My problem with thier site is that if I use Netscape and try to status my order I get a message saying that functionality is down. If I use IE it works.

Coding a site for IE exclusively is a bad idea !

blakwngbrd 10-09-00 05:16 PM

That's bizarre Jimbo... I haven't been able to get it to work in either browser for some 5 days.

Jobronie 10-09-00 06:03 PM

Electric outlet logo is silly.

But more importantly, 4 out of 5 titles I checked at DVDpricesearch today were more expensive once I got to the actual product page at 800.com.

VERY frustrating. Not sure if it's 800's fault, or DVDpricesearch's.....

blakwngbrd 10-09-00 06:50 PM

It might have something to do with cookies as well. You might try looking at your cookie file. I think I recall different problems with the same browser but on different workstations.

blakwngbrd 10-09-00 09:04 PM

It's working now for me in both browsers. Over the weekend I even tried it on a computer which (to my knowledge) had not visited 800.com in many months, and neither browser could get to it from there either. Anyway, I'm glad it's back...

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Jobronie... For the Monty Python set, we are getting the wrong data from 800.com. The other site is probably getting the same datafeed. For the Sopranos, this pre-order is so far in advance (12/12 I think?) that our distributor doesn't even know about it yet. It will appear on our site as soon as we get data from the distributor on it (and I will contact them about it immediately, since this will be a hot item!) Thanks for checking us out...

ernestrp 10-10-00 04:23 AM

Warning!!! If you used the 10.00 off coupon that was in your own personal coupon book on their web site on Saturday. It looks they have taken it back.

I just got my shipping notice and it says my Visa card was charged 58.70 and no mention of a Coupon. My conformation Email was for 48.70 and showed the 10.00 off coupon.

Isnt this against the law? I can see them cancelling the order or asking me first for the extra 10.00 like Amazon did.

I wonder what my order history says at 800.com? I actually got once on Monday for only the 2nd time in over a week and it looked right as I remember.

Jobronie 10-10-00 08:13 AM

blakwngbrd:

I've been using the origianl pricegrabber.com since the first week it came out, and listed ONLY buy.com (buycomp.com, back then) products....

blakwngbrd 10-10-00 01:02 PM

Jobronie, that's wonderful! Thank you for using our site. It's always nice to know that people like us so much!

SteveA 10-10-00 04:16 PM

I appreciate all your comments about the new 800.com website. I realize that it's a big change that may be disturbing to people who've shopped there regularly. But hopefully you'll come to appreciate some of the new features we've added. Although we may not do everything our customers suggest, we do listen to your comments and we'll continue to try to make the website better.

We also apologize for the Order Status not working again, but it should be available now.

And just to make it perfectly clear, I am NOT Mr. Speed. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

HepDude 10-11-00 02:23 AM

It's not the features, it is the stark and barren look. It's just less appealing looking than the previous 800.com look, which was nice.

My experience is that graphic designers make something better about 51% of the time, and worse about 49% of the time.

A great example is the horrible new Bank Of America logo. I'm sure they paid ten of thousands for that trash (if not millions).

BTW, what new features are there? I haven't noticed any.

In sum, your website was great before. You should have taken the money invested in the new site, and just added more servers, so people don't have to wait for responses to clicks.

Jobronie 10-11-00 08:40 AM

SteveA:

Any help on the Jurassic 20/100 coupons? Who was targeted? Preorders of JP? Or is it just a cheap plug for a huge release, like Amazon's Harry Potter coupon (good on anything for anybody, just to celebrate the latest HP release)?

Says you need an authorization code. Little help here...?

SteveA 10-11-00 11:32 AM

I won't even begin to argue about website style (we've done far too much of that inside the company http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif ). However some of the "starkness" you've noticed is a conscious attempt to make the pages lighter and load faster. Also, the new 800.com website is a work in progress. There are aspects of some pages that have not been turned on yet.

One of the places we've added the most features is in checkout. You'll now be able to see all your charges (including shipping) before you ever have to enter your credit card. You can even get a shipping estimate on shopping cart page. You can now store multiple addresses in your address book and multiple credit cards in your credit card book. There will be additional shipping features turned on soon.

Another feature we've added is the coupon book. In the past, you could only use a single coupon for any purchase. Now, you can use multiple coupons, as long as no two coupons can be used for any one product.

We also have a new search engine that, especially for electronics, should be much better than the previous one. If you've ever had the problem of searching for an electronics component and not finding it because you didn't have a dash or space in the right place in the model number, you should be much happier now.

So far, we've been concentrating most heavily on the Electronics section of the website. But you should see some additional design changes in the movies and music sections soon.

As for the JP coupons, we have been directing coupons to particular audiences to judge their effectiveness. This is not a general-use coupon.

ive had many instances where 800.com would credit my credit card DAYS after shipping for a coupon i used. just my $0.02u.s.

Lurker 57 10-11-00 02:55 PM

I never thought I would say this... but, I definately liked the old sites color scheme better. I miss the orange... It stood out in my mind as "800.com" but the new look is just like everyone else... Why is there such a giant push these days to make every site on the web look the same? Am I the only one bothered by this?

ubasti 10-11-00 04:28 PM

Another vote for the old web site.
It looked much better.

Lawryll 10-11-00 04:49 PM

Well,

Apparently I am not alone in thinking that the old site looked better.
Steve, I'm not sure why you changed it, but I find it odd that you are trying to justify the changes in light of the fact that most of the feedback has been negative.
I am sure you had many debates in your company regarding the style, but let me just say that it sucks. No offense, but your site now looks just like every other web site. Hey, if this is what you were trying to accomplish...congratuations...you just made your statement in mediocrity. But, I'm here to tell you that your old site was much better and uniquely represented your site in a positive way. I can't imagine why you thought this style change was necessary.
Sigh...
