Has anyone else noticed them having account information down durning the middle of the day a lot lately? I have a few things ordered from them: pre order for Dusk til Dawn that has "already shipped" and a second order for catalog title DVDs and they all list as "on order." WTF? Are they about to go under too?

I got an email shipping notice on Saturday 9/30 and since then when I check priority shipping number it says something like NO record for this number etc, etc.

I was expecting this morning when I got up to go to work (3:30 am) it would tell me it had shipped on 10/2 but so far today 10/3 their records are not available. But to check back in 1-2 hours. Its been a little longer than that!!!

I was planning to order 2 more titles from them but right now I might not.

ernestrp... 800 has no control over when the USPS gets the tracking numbers into their system. It can sometimes take a while, which makes it pretty useless, but you can be fairly certain the item has shipped if you have a tracking number for it.

I had the same experience with my usps tracking number. I'm pretty much expecting the package to be at my door when I get home but I'm gettting tired of checking back in 2hours and my other order not shipping being back ordered.

I, too, had the same problem (shipping confirmation on Saturday, no record at USPS, 800.com site down this morning), but since my browser remembered the USPS website (along with the shipping number), I was able to check the USPS site and see that my order had indeed shipped out of Portland at 4 PM Monday.

My theories for why the shipping was delayed are either:
1) 800.com told USPS to hold my order until Monday afternoon since I ordered the Decalogue, which was listed with a release date of 10/3 (today). Yes, I know it's been released for a while, but 800.com must have run out of stock and they're more serious about sticking to release dates than other e-tailers. Maybe that includes "restocking" dates.
2) 800.com didn't get the shipment out their door until Saturday night, which means USPS couldn't get to it until Monday, which they did. (It probably takes 'em half a day just to figure out which truck or plane to put particular packages.)

So, I'm not particularly worried, even though my experience matches at least a couple of yours. But your particulars (which I don't know) may be different.

Now, if somebody could reassure me that Express.com will be shipping my Ultimate Toy Box on time, I'd be even happier.

blakwngbrd,

I have dealt with 800.com many times in the past. I dont think they ship on weekends so it would probably be better if they did not not send shipping emails until the day it actually shipped. As for my order history its almost 7:00 pm est and still get the check back in 1 or 2 hours. I do have another order that the release date was for today, I guess that will end up being a 3 to 4 weeks after the release date order, as usual.

If everything went right with the 2 above items, I would have placed an order for 2 more pre-releases on next Tuesday but I think right now I will wait and see if they are In-Stock in the future and at the same pre-order price.

Well, here it is Wednesday 10/4 4:08 AM EST and well over 24 hours now and I still get the check back in 1 or 2 hours thing.

I guess I better go see what my credit card is doing. I sure hope they (we) havent had a breech of security on their site but it makes you wonder?

Just checked my credit card on-line and 800.com has done it again. Charged my CC on 9/23 for an order that I received a shipping notice on 9/30 and now its 10/4 4:22 AM and no further infromation available on their site.

I think I will pass on any more orders from them. I do not know why I keep going back there.

My apologies for the problems you're having with the 800.COM website.

We have a problem with the server that was providing order status information over the internet. No orders were lost or anything like that. But there is a problem viewing your order status.

Our engineers are working night and day (which is more literal than you might think) to correct this problem. However, I don't have an estimate of when the problem will be fixed.

Also, the message you get when you try to view your status is less than helpful in the current situation. I'll do what I can to get that changed.

Once again, my apologies.

I'd also like to address a couple of other statements posted in this thread.

Shipping on weekends. We often ship on Saturdays. As the holiday season approaches, we will be shipping product every day of the week. USPS typically picks up at about 3:00 PM EST. If you get an email on Saturday earlier than that, your order probably got picked up that day. If you get a notification later than 3:00 EST, USPS would pick up the order on Monday morning.

The time that your USPS delivery confirmation shows is not the time that they picked up, but rather the time they post to their system. And for weekend pickups, they post to their system on Monday. So it might appear that your order was picked up on Monday when it was actually picked up on Saturday.

Charging your credit card. When you place an order, we authorize your credit card for the amount you charged. This is not a charge. However, it reserves the funds in the account until the order is shipped. This is standard practice by most companies to ensure that the credit card is good and that there are funds available in the card prior to shipping the merchandise. When we ship the merchandise, we email the order confirmation, and then settle the credit card transaction (actually charging your card).

SteveA, thanks for the update, are you shipping orders at this point or is that area effected by the server being down too?

I got a shipping email for the Killer/Hard Boiled set today. Also got the title that I received the shipping email on Saturday but did not ship until Monday or thats when USPS says it was shipped or something like that.

SteveA,

I took a close look at my hard copy Visa statement and what is listed at Charlie Schwab web site. The hard copy gives a Visa Date and Entry Date while the web site only gives the Visa Date, it only says Date. I always thought the Date listed on the web site was the day the money was taken from an account.

Just checked the status on my Jurassic Park (DTS) and Lost World (DTS) order and it still says "1-2 hours blah blah blah".

I finally got in this morning and my order shipped on the 3rd. USPS tracking confirmed it but I still have no confirmation email... Oh well at least I know the product is on its way.

For me, 800.com is in the upper echelon of DVD e-tailers. I've ordered quite a few items from them and they've always shipped items quickly and well-packaged.

Order status should be available now (it was for me just a minute ago). And no, the problem didn't affect shipments at all, just your ability to see order status. I didn't think to ask whether shipping emails were also affected, but I'll try to find out.

ernestrp -- As for how your credit card statement matches up with the authorization and charges, I'll have to ask. Even my own statement confuses me.

Finally, the status is back up. Checked mine for the Jurassic Park movies and The Lost World DTS is "awaiting shipment" and Jurassic Park DTS is "committed for shipping". I believe committed means it's packed up and ready to go while awaiting means it's getting ready to be shipped. Of course, I chose to have both shipped when they are both available to save some $$. I hope they ship today! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SteveA,

I decide to go ahead and pre-order the 2 titles I was thinking about, Ride the Whirlwind and The Shooting for 10/10. I expect that these titles you will not have on the release date from VCI Home Video. I have been tracking their (VCI) releases from September and see they are in-stock at 800.com now but it took some time while Buy and Amazon still list these titles has On-Order.

Click the link in the shipping notice e-mail and you can track it from there. When I was getting the "check back later" errors, the e-mail was enough.

Using a free e-mail account like Hotmail for this purpose makes it easier so you can access the e-mail from anywhere.

That's just my 2¢
